@PaulRRobichaud It could xo the progression within a few seconds rather than a few hundred years. There is a structure in the space of knowledge where to get somwhere there are multiple steps. But there is no reason for there to be a speed limit.

This will only end up being an imperial vs metric situation. Calling it super intelligence does not convey that it is not human specific, that it is engineered, and that we dont really now if it is equivalent to human intelligence.

In that case, the first to discover it does have a right to claim it and your only duty is to validate the claim when presented to you.

@alz_zyd_ Maybe people who do math generally don't switch fields after a phd in pure math. Also the value of pure math in nobel awarding fields is little but mathematical education itself is important.

not sure mathematicians understand what AI means for them in practice so here's a list of consequences extrapolated from the software world:

- each mathematician will become more productive, side projects that could've taken days/weeks might now take hours
- building new theories will become easier, mathematicians can design the building blocks and use AI to prove the interesting properties
- math production will be democratized, indeed vibe math is already a thing
- theorem proving will become less relevant, deciding what to prove and diagnosing proof failures will become more important
- understanding a proof will become more important than the proof itself and will consume most of the time
- mathematicians will have more time to socialize their ideas as AI works in the background
- deep knowledge of a domain might become harder to obtain as most opt to be generalists letting AI take care of the details

@thomasfbloom It makes sens. If anything i dont do somebody that is not me will do, then if there something undone by everybody not me then i must have done it. It's interesting how unintuitive a contrapositive is and how much you need to explain it to yourself.

@cremieuxrecueil Dont see how that converges to anything good. Now everyone is taller and everyone has to go through the ritual of taking the hormones. There are still people taller and shorter than average. Seems just like an extra hassle.

@alz_zyd_ Math is literally formally writing down patterns and structure that exist in our orderly world. So math is very real and reality is built around it. What is true is that math models are indeed incomplete and dont include every principle needed to exactly describe reality.

@fauxfilosopher If you can't explain it to a child you don't understand it completely. Explaining basically means developing the idea axiomatically from common sens principles. And being able to do that is certainly required to umderstand the idea.

@jerrrrrrryyyyy It is very easy to make it read only. But yes it would impossible to do so for the consumer. Thats the point he is making. AI companies can be made to be purely research towards important goals like curing cancer.
