Hay mapas que son auténticas obras de arte como los que realizaba Frederik de Wit en el s. XVII. Si al aplicar la fluorescencia de rayos X sobre los pigmentos rojos se detecta rojo de cadmio (s. XIX) significa que no es una impresión de la época del autor.
