@RockChartrand does it have anything to do with the chart showing rising productivity (more profit) while wages remain stagnant, and inflation rises over time... where did the workers money go? up, up, up. The rich's share of the pie grew eponentially.. the workers lost ground.
@signulll Sergey, and Signull.. maybe you work for yourself. not everyone does. also everyone does not need 'work,' as in an employer, to keep their brains active. some of us are self-motivated thinkers on our own, and 'work' as hard as ever, just on our terms. imagine that.
This bodes ill. Readers used to outnumber non-readers 2 to 1. Now non-readers outnumber readers 3 to 1.
It's hard to imagine a change of that magnitude not having significant effects.
@nmlinguaphile So your kindergarten classmate has no milk. If you share your milk, she'll be friends with her. If the mean bully shares his milk, she'll be friends with him, and they will gang up on you. Make sense?
My feed is suddenly polluted with that devil of the 20th century, Milton Friedman and his pernicious ideas. Also, a flood of rapacious "no one has a right to enforce anyone to do anything" thinking as opposed to we're here to help each other. Getting close again to leaving.
@MiltonFriedmanW when wealth is concentrated and opportunity is limited, you wind up with a whole lot of poor and struggling people, who get blamed by the few rich people in power.
@drdanchoi Freedom from is only half the picture. Freedom To is the other half. Read some Isiah Berlin. We live in a society, not an economy. Adam Smith was appalled even at the unfair conditions of his time. https://t.co/OPAU8MdpuN
@MiltonFriedmanW and that's why 100 countries have universal healthcare. We don't have a society, we have an economy. Controlled not by the people, but the corporate world. Adam Smith would be appalled.
@drdanchoi I see this argument popping up everywhere. Nice try. By this logic, a child have no right to "control the labor" of his parents, and life itself is not a right, since it impels healthcare workers to deliver babies. Freedom is not only 'from' something. It is "for" things too.
