PSA: a request and some changes to our mutual aid practises ...

first of all, requesting that people check their wishlists frequently and keep them updated, ideally on a daily basis, to make sure that items are currently in stock.

donors are sometimes looking at lists and finding items are either out of stock or unavailable and so if you can try to do daily maintenance, that would be great for those who are trying to help!

Secondly, on a less pleasant note, we have had many instances of people recently being reported to ODSP or OW or CRA or local authorities because of their seeking funds to keep themselves and their families house and fed on X

Because of this, we will no longer be sharing the identity of people who have received donations

**and we are recommending that everyone create a separate identity for asking for help**

so that you can avoid being targeted.

Most workers are understanding and attribute this to troll behavior, but some are not, and I can't even begin to fathom the evil it requires to do something like this, to interfere with survival like this, but there are people out there who get some kind of emotional satisfaction out of seeing people in pain

so we will still be posting and celebrating donations,

but we will not be disclosing accounts with personal info and we recommend that everyone use anonymous accounts going forward to ask for help any questions. disclose no information about yourself if possible.

We've also heard that people are using the lists to target those seeking help, so I am not really sure what to do about how we publish asks going forward if I should just be retweeting individually or continuing to publish the lists.

Heartbreaking.

I can't believe we are in a situation as a society where these decisions and questions are necessary just for people trying to exist and to help people live.

Trying to figure out how to help the most while doing the least harm. Let me know if you have any thoughts. Thank you.
