I'm lucky to have worked with Christian (ahem, dowski) at three of four companies over the last 17 years. Such an amazing developer and human being!
Still grateful to @aminusfu for the introduction so many years ago. Three cheers to CherryPy and the Python webdev community.
Really cool article on some great local Texas groceries featuring some friends! https://t.co/BCIJNqLBmC and https://t.co/7Osk7HTtvo

@jbeallurks They have some apps that will let you send an email to slack for chatting about it. I don't even know what I was expecting. But I'll call it that email is dead.
@emaildanwilson@worldwise001 A manager friend switched companies. He had been a successful senior engineer when he became a manager. His vast context was helpful guiding the team technically, but when he changed jobs, that context disappeared. He now has to rely on his ability to coach vs. His skills.
@ag_dubs@skamille Yeah I think there will be some normalization, but I just doubt it will be international simply because it is really hard to play by all the different international rules alongside basic timezones challenges. I could be wrong about US salaries rising too. Time will tell!
@skamille@ag_dubs Sure, I'm just saying if the market for talent stays really competitive, it seems like an easy way to win qaulity people by offering salaries that can compete with companies in the valley. It sounds like that isn't the norm now, but I think it could be in the future.
@ag_dubs@skamille I just mean I'm not likely to take a pay cut to work locally and start dealing with traffic and potentially change my family's qaulity of life. I suspect that is a reasonably common, but I do agree that for some taking the pay cut to live somewhere else is reasonable.
@skamille@ag_dubs Same goes for FAANG. If they try to allow going remote in another location, but they adjust the salary, why not leave for another company? If I'm Google, why not poach them for the same salary + the option to live anywhere in the US?
@skamille@ag_dubs For companies in the valley, yes. Same goes for companies in other expensive hubs. Working for companies remotely based in NY and the valley, I don't think I can ever go back to a local company as the salaries are just too low.
