@VWoolfStatue Thank you for the reply! We found it on pure luck, saw the unveiling and everything 🥰 we sat on that bench so many times before, couldn’t have picked a better spot.
@BigupJeff You mentioned seeing professionals and the iTalk therapy.
What type of professionals have you seen so far? Do you know if they are like only certified counsellors or if they have another medical/psychology/psychiatry background?
Hey you 👋
I have been diagnosed with ADHD and Anxiety/Depression this Year.
Coding, studying and working took a ton of energy to focus, and my self-esteem was always at rock bottom.
Now I finally have support, but it took me all this time and effort to get here.
@BigupJeff I don’t think that path is really viable for most, just as you said. I only went that route because my works pays for my health insurance.
If you are in the UK, research for “Right to Choose” via NHS. For ADHD assessment, you can ask your GP to refer you to Psychiatry-UK.
@BigupJeff Dont apologise! This is exactly what I hope would happen. I am really glad we had this exchange and met over here.
Hope you get everything you are looking for.
I will be around any time you need someone to chat/offload again!
@BigupJeff Yes, I can totally see that. Trying to do as many things as possible that are known to make your life better, I would assume.
I had a similar approach and similar results. The lows kept creeping back. Sometimes a week or two, sometimes a whole month.
@BigupJeff Yeah, I know folks like that also. I might have a bit of that also… seeing that others could have mental health issues, but I could not hve it? 🤷♂️
In my case, I think I was also convinced by others that maybe I was lazy, irresponsible, disorganised, etc.
@BigupJeff Did you quit drinking because of anxiety or was it another life event?
I am about 12 years in without drinking any alcohol - not because I was abusing it, but because I found it was doing more harm than good.
@BigupJeff In the end, it is never a simple answer or fix. Now I have medication for ADHD and Anxiety/Depression, plus Therapy.
I also made some lifestyle changes - eating better, stopping smoking, stopping drinking and becoming more active.
A bit exaggerated, but this mindset helps!
@Dimitar__Stoev Thank you, Dimitar!
Sometimes it is hard when I like the work and being productive, but you are right.
I need to keep remembering that!
@BigupJeff I finally landed on a couple of private Psychiatrists: one paid by my health insurance, another by referral and covered by public health.
They both started with a self-assessment for ADHD (you can find that in a few places), and my scale was VERY high.
Glad I persisted.
@BigupJeff After my therapist said it was likely I did not have ADD, I decided to keep pushing:
1) First, with public health in the UK. I was completely lost. It was impossible to navigate;
2) Then, with a "Right to Choose" referral (where I asked for a referral to a private clinic);
@BigupJeff It took me a couple of years to look for the answer because I had nobody helping or giving me any guidance.
That was probably a bit wasteful from my side, but I also did not know any better - so I don't think I could have done it differently.
@BigupJeff Thank you, Jefferson!
Yeah, I think I went through a similar path as you.
It always felt like there was something missing, even after each significant improvement step.
To say more clearly, I would still keep having a "crashing low", time after time. Nothing was fixing it.
Anyway, this is to say that you shouldn’t blame someone for not looking for help by themselves.
This shit is super challenging to deal with, and everyone has their struggles.
If you want to talk or need any advice, hit me up.
