Today the fight for Iran’s liberation has expanded to include a broad, diverse coalition of Iranians at home and abroad.

Yet there were those who stood up for Iran’s freedom from the very first day of this regime’s occupation. Some risked their lives in this fight.

My dear cousin, Shahriar Shafiq, was the first of far too many freedom-fighters assassinated abroad by the Islamic Republic. I think of him often, especially as we approach the victory he fought and gave his life for.

امروز مبارزه برای آزادی ایران گسترش یافته است و ائتلاف گسترده و متنوعی از ایرانیان در داخل و خارج را شامل می‌شود.

اما کسانی بودند که از همان روز نخست در مقابل این رژیم اشغالگر و برای آزادی ایران ایستادند. برخی‌شان جان خود را در این مبارزه به خطر انداختند.

پسرعمه‌ عزیزم، ناخدا شهریار شفیق، نخستین مبارز از خیل مبارزان راه آزادی ایران بود که در ۴۴سال گذشته به دست جمهوری اسلامی در خارج از کشور ترور شدند. اغلب به یاد وی هستم؛ به‌ویژه هرچه به پیروزی که او برای آن مبارزه و جانش را فدا کرد، نزدیک می‌شویم.

With the passing of Henry Kissinger, the world has lost a great statesman and diplomat. In interactions with him, one always sensed Dr. Kissinger’s mind at work, seeking solutions to the world’s most vexing problems. When it came to Iran and the people of our country, he always stood on the right side not only because it was strategically beneficial but because it was morally correct. I will always remember his kindness and attentiveness to my father, my family, and myself in all of these years and express my sincere condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones.

Je condamne avec force l’attentat terroriste commis hier soir à Paris qui a coûté la vie à un touriste allemand et qui a blessé deux autres personnes. J’exprime ma solidarité aux familles des victimes et mon soutien au gouvernement français dans la lutte contre le terrorisme islamiste.

Je le dis et je le répète: quelle que soit la solution mise en œuvre, la victoire sur le terrorisme islamiste passera par le soutien au peuple iranien et le renversement du régime de la république islamique en place en Iran qui, depuis plus de quatre décennies, produit la substance politique et idéologique de l’islamisme et offre à de nombreux groupes terroristes dans le monde les moyens matériels et financiers de commettre leurs crimes.

شاهرخ شاهید یکی از نخستین هنرمندان ایرانی در تبعید بود که هنرش را به مبارزه آشکار با جمهوری اسلامی پیوند زد و در تمام ۴۴ سال گذشته، در این مبارزه در کنار مردمش پابرجا ایستاد. او به درستی معتقد بود که هیچ ایرانی تبعیدی نمی‌تواند بگوید که سیاسی نیست. شوربختانه این هنرمند میهن‌پرست زود از میان ما رفت اما ترانه‌های دلنشین و صدای گرمش تا سالها برای ایرانیان ماندگار خواهد بود. فقدان شاهرخ را به خانواده وی، جامعه هنری ایران، و همه دوستان و دوستدارانش تسلیت می‌گویم. یادش گرامی!
