A group of French-Iranian lawyers in contact with my Secretariat, has produced a report attesting that there are no legal obstacles to adding the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to the EU list of terrorist organizations.

Based on this report, already shared with multiple European governments, I invite the European authorities to reconsider their current position. Listing this entity, which is dedicated not to protecting Iran or Iranians but instead the power of the dictatorship, would be a strong and long-awaited recognition of reality and a show of support to my compatriots who are fighting for freedom and democracy in our country.

(3/4) But there are conditions to be met. For instance, any judicial action, or similar authority, in a third country must simply imbed fair and due process in their decision making and their decision must be recent, within the last 5 years.

1.The US designation, although important, is not sufficient per EU court’s decision.
2.@EUCouncil has already referred the matter to the Political and Security Committee in tandem with COMET WP.

(11) I want to read all the technical parts for myself. What do I have to read? The document called the “Common position 2001/931/CFSP” sets out the relevant steps and requirements. Plus, the document setting up the COMET WP is titled 14612/1/16 Rev 1, dated 23 November 2016.
