Children had to be “slaves” and were led through nighttime woods while being screamed at by adult “slave owners.” This happened 10 years ago in the Underground Railroad activity at Nature’s Classroom, and I talked with people who say it haunts them still.

Juliana Gabelus, now 22, went to Nature’s Classroom in Charlton, Mass. when she was 9 years old. There are other locations still offering the program nationwide, and Gabelus said what happened to her during the activity made her question reality.
