Happy Birthday to Evander Holyfield, aka "The Real Deal". Born on October 19, 1962 in Atmore, Alabama. He is 64 years old. He is a legendary American former professional boxer who remains the only 4-time World Heavyweight Champion in boxing history. Competing from 1984 to 2011, Holyfield achieved the historic feat of becoming the Undisputed Champion in two different weight classes—Cruiserweight in the late 1980s and Heavyweight in the early 1990s, during the 3-belt era.
At the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics, Evander Holyfield competed in the Light Heavyweight division and won a Bronze Medal under what remains one of the most controversial and infamous refereeing decisions in Olympic boxing history.
Known for his incredible chin, ultimate warrior spirit, and relentless work ethic, Holyfield frequently moved up to fight naturally larger opponents, solidifying his status as an all-time great of the sport's golden era. His Boxing record is 44-10-2 draws, with 29 wins by KO.
Holyfield was officially inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2017. Beyond his legendary ring career, he is a father to 11 children—including professional boxer Evan Holyfield and former NFL player Elijah Holyfield—and remains active globally by mentoring youth and sharing his boxing knowledge. #Heavyweight #History #Boxing #BoxingLegends #BoxingHistory #USABoxing #Boxeo #Cruiserweight #Evander #Holyfield #EvanderHolyfield #TheRealDeal

8th round heavyweight action between George Chuvalo (left) and Pat McMurtry, on October 17, 1958, with McMurtry winning a 10-round unanimous decision in the MSG debuts for both boxers.
The AP, which unofficially scored it 8-2 in rounds for McMurtry, would write:
"George Chuvalo, a thick-legged, wild puncher with a solid left hook, staggered Pat McMurty in the 2nd round, but couldn't follow up. After that he spent the night bleeding from the nose and eyes while McMurty forced left jabs and right uppercuts into his face. Chuvalo weighed 207 1/2 to McMurtry's 188 3/4."
Chuvalo came into this bout at 15-2-1 while McMurtry entered at 29-2-1. He'd fought less than five weeks earlier, at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, KO'ing James J. Parker in the 1st round for the vacant Canadian Heavyweight Title.
Pat McMurtry, 33-4-1 as a pro with 25 KO's, was a contender in the Heavyweight division during the late 1950s. He retired in early 1960, after he suffered a hard knockout and a brain injury against Eddie Machen in the 1st round, on October 27, 1959, in Portland, Oregon. He later became a referee, primarily in the Pacific Northwest, as well as throughout the world.
McMurtry had wins over a faded Ezzard Charles, Bobo Olson, Rueben Vargas, Howard "Honeyboy" King, and Chuvalo during his 5-year career (1954-59).
He died April 17, 2011, after a battle with liver cancer, aged 79.
