On a day with four ranked SEC matchups, ABC is putting Notre Dame at BYU in primetime (and, presumably, GameDay) on Oct. 17. Good decision for college football.
A good friend text me this last night:
"Bro, This girl text me a few times today to come over to her place tonight.
I know where it'll lead........She wants to hookup. I'm just lonely & thinking I might."
He's a recent Christian & wants a great Godly wife & kids one day.
Maybe he's looking for validation or for me to say some FOLLOW YOUR HEART BS....... instead, I Called him.
He picks up:
"Hey bro, I'm gonna say 2 quick things,
1) Would this action lead you closer or further away from the man you want to be? You've been down this path how many times now? Do you feel better or worse each time after?
2) Someday you'll stand before God & give an account for the decision you make tonight. The Bible clearly says we will all give an account for our life. Do you FEAR GOD?
You have free will my man, it's 100% up to you. Love ya.
Got a text a few hours later.
He took a hike with his dog, read the Bible, & worked on his side business.
Being a good friend, is NOT AFFIRMING BAD CHOICES.
It is speaking hard truths. Challenging a brother when he wants to stray.
I have so many men in my life that speak hard truths to me. I hope you have a circle like that too.
IRON SHARPENS IRON. ❤️🙏
Saying “some of us can govern ourselves” is exactly the kind of reasoning that Elder Christofferson addressed. It’s not about being able to govern yourself, it’s about being a city on a hill.
BYU rising to number 8 after its performance against TCU feels like what happens when the powers at be are trying to set up a media-lucrative matchup against Notre Dame
If you don’t think media money is the main driver behind rankings, you’re incredibly naïve.
NGL I was skeptical of how Latter-day Saints would react to Elder Christofferson's talk on gambling.
But on LDSocial I've just witnessed a flood of Saints spitting their metaphorical tabacco into the fire by deleting their betting apps.
Youth of the noble birthright, carry on.
Starting a business, buying stocks, farming, purchasing a home... all involve risk - the future is uncertain
But in each case, your money is connected to something that can produce real value - a business, a product, a service, crops, property...
Gambling on the other hand...
What you're paying for is the WAGER ITSELF.
Your actions are motivated by a desire to get something for nothing.
@RubenLDante@Mormonger@ChristoffDTodd so because he didn't address your specific brand of gambling, it was an epic moral failure?
How much more clear does "gambling is bad" need to be??
Putting money or something of value at risk to bet on a particular outcome or event is an activity that has plagued mankind almost, I suppose, from the beginning of time.
And time has not made it any more worthwhile or any less harmful. Unfortunately, in recent years, gambling has become incredibly pervasive.
