You make a sharp observation. There is indeed an ongoing iconoclasm against the Icelandic murti. The trinity here is Land, Society, Demographics.

But they are not on the same footing. There is a hierarchy.

The slow undoing of the land has begun, the country repackaged and sold as a consumer product. I addressed this in Ísland – Óviðjafnanlegt.

A significant section of this society suffers from a deep moral & spiritual sickness, a relatively recent development. I will come to that.

But the third, demographics, is the decisive front, a clear and present danger.

Land can recover. Societal pathologies can, over time, be treated. But if the original Icelandic population is reduced to a minority, or worse, then: “I can give you no hope; there is nothing for it but to collapse in deepest humiliation.” (Eddington’s words, in another context.)

Add to this churn a foothold for Islam, and the descent will not be gentle.

The Icelandic patriots are on thin ice. Right now, Snorri & Sigmundur Davíð are the only political instruments of consequence in your quiver. Remove them and you have nothing.

The donnybrook over the Pride flag is a distraction. Not trivial, but misprioritised. If only half that energy were directed at immigration policy and the demographic trajectory.

The Trans-LGBTQ-Pride fixation of a significant portion of the nation is part of a larger disease eating away at this society, reflecting a loss of moral compass. I touched on it in light strokes in Hvað hrjáir Ísland? An honest reckoning would not have cleared Morgunblaðið’s editorial desk, and I am reluctant to flesh it out on X as well. An Icelander should do it.

What a tragedy that these degenerate sexual perverts are now tampering with kids in schools, injecting poison into tender minds. This is the nation’s seed corn, and what these debased deviants are doing, in concert with the National Church, media, HÍ, and the political class, is laying the ground for the destruction of a continuing society.

Memes about the Icelandic flag in response to the Pride flag are a clown show. The Pride flag is a symptom of a deeper malaise. The Icelandic flag is not its antidote. Flag patriotism is performative, with no measurable effect. Its purpose is to look good on social media and gather Likes. Indians excel at this too. Great outrage at symbolic slights, indifference to real decay.

There was humiliation last year when the filthy Palestinian rag was waved in front of Alþingi, on June 17. Nobody had the nerve to tell the offenders to get the hell out.

Example 2. After it came to light that halal has become par for the course in Icelandic homes, did the patriotic side do anything beyond bitching & moaning on X? Did anyone sacrifice the pleasure of the tongue to bring economic pressure on the meat companies? Contrast that with the Turk, Kjartansdóttir, and their cohort. They deliver real outcomes. The patriotic side preens and postures.

Countering the cancer eating away at this nation's moral & spiritual fibre will require leadership with resolve. Someone who can call things by their right names, draw firm lines, and summon all that is sound in the Icelandic character.

In the East, this role falls to elders. Iceland does not have that societal model to draw on. It means individuals will have to step into that space and carry the weight. Someone like Arnar Þór Jónsson, for instance. He comes across as a refined mind with a strong moral spine.

A 21-year-old Afghan asylum seeker has been allowed to walk free after sexually assaulting at least four girls, aged 12-14, at the Bud Spencer outdoor pool in Schwäbisch Gmünd, southwestern Germany.

He inappropriately touched the girls, attempted to remove their bikini bottoms, and tried to penetrate one girl while they were in the adventure pool. The girls managed to fight him off. Police believe there may be additional victims.
