You can't have a light touch where you don't give fouls for minimal contact and then rule out a goal through VAR for a very minimal hold of the shirt.

I always think about the simple Egyptian fruit seller who realized aid trucks were headed to Gaza and started throwing fruit onto them. Coach Hossam exemplified that sincerity yesterday. The deep love that this Ummah has for Palestine unites us, and the disconnect is only between the streets and the politics, not the people.

After uni I went backpacking in Egypt with some friends from my course.

I was the only Somali in the group. Every single time we went to the pyramids, museums or any tourist spot, the Egyptians would ask me where I was from. The second I said “Somalia”, their whole face would change. Big smile, “Ahlan ya akhi” and just like that, I paid the Egyptian price while my friends paid the tourist price.

They didn’t see a tourist. They saw a brother.
