@DGlaucomflecken The only time I’ve ever felt competent with a neurosurgeon in the room — he was having a colonoscopy, and I had the propofol in hand. Yup. Just that once.
@smith_jsbe8786@RyanMarino@acweyand@alisadoc1@AshleyGWinter@DrCanuckMD@quality_nguyen @KarenPercy1 One thing to note, for those assuming that the ‘doctor cannot spell’ — it is not safe to assume that this unfortunate patient was seen by a physician in the ER.
Along with various levels of professionalism, there are also various levels of training, experience and competence.
@cliffreid The anesthesiologists I met as a student: so calm, prepared, kind, thorough, humane, respectful, always caring for the whole patients… in a space where there were too many weren’t those things.
I wanted to be like them when I grew up.
@cjosephy For some strange reason, rocuronium is used liberally in anesthetizing locations without the high incidence of awareness, including in critically ill patients.
The roc has never been the issue. It’s the normalization of lack of sedation and use of terror and pain as pressors.
The introverted urge to smell books, live in books, buy more books, keep buying even more books, live in a house made out of books, read books all day, ignore the world and live with the characters in books, and then buy more books before you’re done with the other books.
@theblondenp Just show him this thread.
Medicine is so toxic that it has different allied health professionals bragging about their race to get to the mental health breakdown finish line first.
Bragging like it’s good. Good to be the biggest hot mess.
@snailsanctuary One of the most memorable moments in my career is one of the hospital angels (my name for the chaplains) finding me in a corner at work and checking to see if I was okay.
I wasn’t.
And I was so comforted because I felt seen.
Thank you for everything you do.
@ShawnteJamesMD The craziest thing about this is that it’s usually old men with crappy personalities like his that we see in the hospital - alone with no friends, estranged families and big mad at the world… getting ready to meet their maker.
… and the kids waiting to collect the inheritance
@DavidFarleyMD With all due respect, sir… it’s not too late to seek therapy for the trauma you experienced at the hands of those who taught you that abuse builds character.
Do this for yourself, and also to break the cycle for those whose education you have been charged with.
