One day, Shizuo Kakutani was teaching a class at Yale. He wrote a lemma on the blackboard and said that its proof was obvious.
A student raised his hand and said that the proof was not obvious to him. He asked Kakutani to explain it.
Kakutani thought about it for a few moments and realized that he could not prove the lemma himself. He apologized and said he would explain it at the next class.
After class, Kakutani went to his office and tried to prove the lemma. He could not. He skipped lunch and went to the library to find the original paper.
After some searching, he found it. The lemma was stated clearly, but the proof simply said, “Exercise for the reader.”
Then Kakutani noticed something interesting: the paper had been written by Kakutani himself in 1941.
Times you’re allowed to cry as a man:
-when your dog dies
-the ending of Field Of Dreams
-when Matthew McConaughey sees the videos of his kids in Interstellar
-hearing Someone Like You by Adele in November
-when your friend’s bride reads her vows and they’re amazing and you realize no one will ever love you as much and it’s 100% your fault
-boarding a flight home from a weekend with friends you don’t see enough wishing you could go back to the phase of your life where you saw them every day
-when you walk into your friend’s Christmas party and his dad says “Get over here big guy!” and gives you a hug
-listening to How To Save A Life by The Fray on Sunday at 9PM
C’est peut-être juste moi mais j’ai l’impression que Santé Québec est sur le point de devenir un gros Girl’s Club qui va faire semblant de travailler mais qui ce passera rien pantoute à la shop….
