What is life about? Is there any meaning in life? I don’t know 🤷. But I do know that when I see people older than me working a 9-5 or a blue collar job I think to myself my life definitely cannot be spent doing that.
When I worked my finance internship last October, I looked at my co-workers who worked their entire lives, have eyes that had no life in them, empty almost. It seems as if their dreams were gone. They had accepted their situation. All there was left was to come in ever day and hope to retire.
I could never wait until I’m in my 60’s to retire. When I look and interact with retired people, life seems painful. They do things they wished to have done when they were young. They to fight for the youthfulness that was once there. Nurses often say while people are dying they talk about their regrets such as working too much, not being able to spend time with their family, not being able to spend more time with themsleves, etc.
I try to live my life looking at people who are from all walks of life. For example kids have a curiosity within them that cannot be destroyed while you see older people, not all but some dead inside waiting to be buried.
This is why for me $NEET brings me so much hope, I’m not the best at school, in fact I hate my degree I’m doing right now but I’ve been told all my life that I need to study hard to get a good job etc etc (Asian household). But in this day and age, I see jobs becoming harder and harder to get, and I don’t have any connections with wealthy peers or people to get a job.
I see how far ai has advanced in the past 4 years, my friend studying compsci says it’s over and he’s the most intelligent person I know. I see my professors telling everyone to learn ai and how it’s a tool but it’ll do my job faster and better than any human can. Sure it hasn’t replaced humans right now, but I see a future where it does soon.
I see how draining jobs are whether physically or mentally they all take away the precious time you have in this short lifespan of ours. Someone else tells you what to do or what not to do, when to eat, when to take a break, or when to go home. It is so so so wrong to me. I truly respect all the people who have to get up and go to work each and everyday and if you truly love your job, I am very happy for you.
When looking at China, where I was born, university students are giving up on finding jobs and protesting by laying flat in their homes. If you don’t go to a top university your life is to probably become a food delivery driver. Some people have even started renting office spaces to show their family they do work, due to societal and familial pressures. So to me neet is a global movement, it’s not just some random memecoin on the internet it’s truly something I find peace and happiness in.
Yes my position is small relative to most people but this is all I can afford at the moment and doesn’t mean I’m less bullish than the next guy.
Thanks for reading, I hope to see you at the top.
