The fact that a song has to be streamed a million times in a month for the artist to earn 3k a month is absolutely wild. There's 500m streaming users in the world. Assume they listen to 10 hours of music a day, 20 songs per hour, that still means total royalties of just 3.6bn.
I am trying to understand the economics of how streaming killed off artist income, and ... is this really a case of blitzscaling (under-pricing to gain market share) followed by abuse of market power afterward?
