I think that if you’re going to write a piece in the Times urging the government to use and boost more AI, the fact that you are paid by a major AI company should be in the first sentence, or at least first paragraph.
I also think that the best scenario for AI is that it destroys millions of jobs with the prosperity, dignity and community that goes with them.
The worst scenario is the destruction of the human race - a fear openly expressed by an increasing number of senior and experienced AI engineers who are leaving the industry.
And somewhere in between a myriad of horrors such as yet more screen learning and screen addiction for our children.
But I do see that it will make rich men even richer. And that’s the most important thing of course.
@HMRCcustomers@HMRCcustomers I need to be able to speak to someone who has access to my personal records because my question is specific. What is your advice in this scenario? What can I say to bypass the pre-screening questions so I can speak to someone on the phone?

A major internal revolt is brewing within the Labour Party over the government's planned digital ID cards.
Senior sources report that Number 10 held a Zoom call with Labour MPs to "update" them on the policy, but the strategy appears to have backfired catastrophically.
MPs on the call were described as "tearing their hair out," messaging that the effort to "win us round" is only hardening opposition. One MP bluntly assessed that Number 10 now has a "reverse Midas touch"—their support for a policy makes it less likely to happen, with some believing the push has set back digital ID by five years.
The political fallout is severe:
• Polling shows support for ID cards "plummeted" after Keir Starmer backed it.
• 2.8 million people have signed a petition against it, a massive number indicating deep public scepticism.
• Labour MPs in marginal seats are furious, seeing it as another "wheelie bin fire" on the doorstep alongside the winter fuel allowance and farming backlashes.
The policy's justification is also in chaos. Initially sold as a measure to crack down on illegal immigration by preventing illegal migrants from working, the government has since pivoted to vague claims about streamlining public services.
This confusion has left MPs asking: "What is the real reason?" and "Why is this a priority when it wasn't in the manifesto?"
This is more than a policy dispute; it's a critical test of the new government's political judgement and its ability to manage its own party.
Dr. Jordan Peterson issues a chilling warning from the front lines of the digital panopticon.
In China, the architecture of totalitarian tyranny is not a future dystopia—it is today’s reality. A single traffic camera catching you jaywalking initiates a terrifying, fully automated process.
The state’s digital ID system doesn’t just have your name. It possesses your biometric essence: your face, your gait, your genetic code. Conviction is instant. No judge, no jury, no human intermediation.
The punishment is multi-faceted and ruthlessly efficient:
• Fines are automatically deducted from your bank account.
• Your photograph is publicly shamed in your community.
• Your social credit score is systematically reduced.
And when that score falls below the state’s arbitrary threshold, your life is systematically dismantled. You are locked out of society: barred from purchasing a drink, playing a game, boarding a train, or even leaving your designated 15-minute district.
This is not speculation. This is operational. It is a system of control so absolute, so omniscient, that it renders George Orwell’s 1984 “a picnic” by comparison.
The road to this digital serfdom begins with verified digital identity. The question is: Will we fight it, or will we meekly walk down the same path?
Hear me out, but what if the election results were announced in a Eurovision style?
"Good evening Clive and Laura! Thank you for a wonderful show! The parliamentary seat for the constituency of _______ goes to..." 😂
They partied , they bet on elections , they crashed the economy, they broke every public service, they destroyed integrity and honesty in public office , they paid their mates billions , they put their friends in the House of Lords, they gave their cronies knighthoods, they went into the jungle , they lied again and again, they were convicted by police, they went on holiday when they shouldn’t and they have the cheek to question Keir Starmer’s work ethic. I would never take anything for granted but I hope they are annihilated on Thursday. The worst people and government we have ever had!
P.S good afternoon all 😊❤️
▪️Just because someone questioned the Covid response, it doesn’t make them a ‘covidiot’ or ‘antivaxxer’.
▪️Just because someone is concerned about levels of migration, it doesn’t make them a “xenophobe”.
▪️Just because someone questions the war in Ukraine, it doesn’t make them a ‘Putin apologist’.
▪️Just because someone questions Net Zero, it doesn’t make them a ‘climate change denier’.
▪️Just because someone criticises the Israeli government, it doesn’t make them an ‘antisemite’ or a ‘Hamas supporter’.
▪️Just because someone happens to be a Leave voter, it doesn’t make them ‘thick’ or ‘racist’.
▪️Just because someone happens to be a Remain voter, it doesn’t make them a ‘remoaner’ or ‘unpatriotic’.
▪️Just because someone happens to question the agendas of various governments, NGOs and global technocratic institutions, it doesn’t make them a “conspiracy theorist”.
This lazy, derogatory trope smearing is immature, thought policing, vindictive and designed to shut down or marginalise different opinions. And it’s giving governments exactly what they want - divide and rule and ultimately, more control.
We need to build bridges of unity rather than building walls of division and instead focus on the root cause of so many of our problems - namely, bad governments. Let’s unite and turn our anger onto them rather than smearing each other because of different opinions.
Can we skip two days of milkshake discourse? If you hate him then it’s valid & funny, if you love him then it’s “they’ve lost the argument if they have to resort to this” and if you’re a bit centrist dad then you think it’s a coarsening of politics. Right. Done, let’s move on.
