@jaromjordan The way I saw it… Kalani was getting on the job training. I always thought he had the potential to make it work, it was if he’d be afforded enough time to figure it out. Those first few years really were about him learning to be a head coach.
🆕 Robert Young lived in the end zone at Roy High
But the distance between touchdowns, figuratively, was not much different than the physical distance he traveled do it, eventually at Weber State

My honest to goodness best memory of childhood was working with my dad in the garage on Saturdays listening to BYU football on the radio. We'd work on… who knows what… together, listen to Paul James call the game, and get a burger from Arctic Circle.
But 1990 was different.
I guess I want to add an addendum to this. The radio. Learning to consume sports on the radio is a lost art and is something I’m so glad I learned. Radio has a special place in my family b/c my grandpa was a broadcaster in Ogden with his own show for 50 years.

@WeberHQ Same. I remember sneaking a Walkman into school to hear Shaq demolish Shawn Bradley and the rest of BYU in the NCAA tourney. I remember many times listening to Hot Rod on Jazz games. Same with the Raptors. I still love listening to playoff baseball while driving around at night.
And I was like. “Uhhh it’s on the radio… listen to what the announcer is saying.” But she just couldn’t and it was strange to me. But if I ONLY grew up with visual as my medium for learning ANYTHING I can imagine that a radio broadcast would be difficult to comprehend.
We were driving home from a competition in Logan a few weeks ago and I was listening to the Weber State game on the radio and she couldn’t grasp the concept of listening to a game on the radio and every time I’d react to something on the game she would ask what was happening.
So all that is to say that it was 36 years between seasons like this for me in my fanhood. So whatever happens this season… just enjoy the ride. Enjoy the commentary. Enjoy being in the national title conversation. Then enjoy your heart being broken because that’s beautiful too.
That season made me a BYU fan for life. It’s fun seeing this same thing happen this year with BYU at number 2 in October. 1990 was the last time they were ranked so high so early. There’s a personal euphoria around all college football when week to week when it plays out this way
