Most beautiful part of being a founder is the natural push to be a generalist.
You must become proficient in a multitude of different skills/disciplines.
It's stressful af but something i've become grateful for over the years.
Today is a special day for @indify and its founders @prettyboyshav@itsconlaw and Matt, who have been working tirelessly on a vision to help artists own their work (and their business) for more than a decade.
When people say "Next time I'm not going to start an x startup," two common values of x are "hardware" and "music". But for completely different reasons: hardware is intrinsically difficult, and the music industry is mafia.
Don’t get confused, all these direct-to-fan music models still require you to BUILD A FANBASE FIRST. There’s no way to cut those corners, the work still needs to be done.
@matdryhurst But what if your focus is building an audience that helps you get to 500k streams/day?
Then you’re making ~$720k/year, far more than the vast majority of Americans.
Even with the web3 or patreon for music options you have to build a fanbase to support you.
@daoudaleonard Well said, in the next few weeks we’re shipping features on @indify to reflect just this - trying to figure out how to help artists best display their intent/vision to potential partners.
The biggest lie they ever told you was that Spotify was bad for the music industry. It’s only bad for people who have no traction. It wasn’t invented to create traction for anyone. It was created to reduce music piracy. Anyone who has close to a direct deal and fans who intentionally listen is making lots of $.
So, Mark Zuckerberg finally tried the Apple Vision Pro and compared it to the Meta Quest 3
He says:
- Quest is 7x less expensive yet way more comfortable
- Quest is better for gaming, Xbox, YouTube
- "I'm surprised how much better Quest is better for majority of things"
My biggest takeaway:
The future of ads feels like his IG post.
This is real. No marketing talk, just saying it as it is.
Zuck's Apple Vision Pro feels like I'm listening to a tech reviewer not a guy worth $165B.
I feel like I'm having a convo in a living room with my friend Mark. You feel his enthusiasm.
Reminds me of the Kayne Superbowl ad. The guy spent $7M and took a 30s selfie video. Highly effective. He sold $19M of product within 24h of that video.
So my point is, if you're creating an "ad"
More living room, less high budget.
Be real.
