Today, as many Kenyas commemorated #NationalTreePlantingDay by planting trees, in the spirit of the #ZeroHunger Initiative @aphrc, I stood in solidarity with those heavily impacted by the floods & resultant government actions of demolishing their houses as a safety measure.

I spent some time with @ViccoMukuru @ShakurNjeru1 in Mukuru Sinai slum- I shared food with them - @ViccoMukuru are running a community kitchen, feeding ~300 people two meals everyday during this crisis. They get support from well-wishers like you & me - Any support is so direly needed & appreciated.

We visited the demolition sites - It was calm, though I could feel the sadness in peoples hearts as they watched the bulldozer bring down the houses. #VICCO & other groups are promoting peace in the community by encouraging the youth & others in the community to be calm & accept the situation without violence.

My heart is always so warmed by their work & that of the many other grassroots organizations that @Zero_Hunger_Ke at APHRC works with. They are literally the life of their communities. They do what even the mighty government would find hard to do. They penetrate their communities, they sustain their communities, they create resilience in their communities in such a time as this!

If I were the government, I would allocate funding to these groups as part of social security. Still wondering how I could be of help in helping such great groups access the @UNFCCC #Loss & #Damage #LossDamage Fund to support their communities deal with & adapt to #ClimateChange impacts. That’s in my radar to explore.

Their urban farm was unfortunately affected by the floods - but it was spared from demolition. The government representatives in the community respect it.🙏
