Cry it out is an absolutely heinous parenting practice that defies all common sense and maternal instincts. Developed and pushed by paediatricians mainly due to the necessity of mom needing a good night sleep so she can function at work in the morning. Nonetheless it has become ubiquitous across the political spectrum.

I hear about it being needed in trad circles a lot by parents who have near constant back to back pregnancies and simply aren’t able to give multiple babies the comfort and responsiveness they need and so the need is rationalized away for utilitarian purposes.

Tragic however you cut it. Clocking out of the holy and moral work of caring for your baby at sundown is absolutely wild to me. No I don’t respect you as much as I respect a mom who attends to her babies needs at night no matter the time. We are not the same.

The people who swear by its use often idiotically equate cry it out methods with any time a baby might cry during the day and cannot be immediately attended to, such as baby crying in a car seat for a few minutes while driving. They are not the same thing at all obviously and one has to wonder what kind of malevolent or insane person would think so. This is the shallow and self centered parenting of 2025 but I sense a tide change coming.

I believe wholeheartedly that in my lifetime we will see a huge cultural shift around cry it out that will relegate it to archaic and barbaric practices such as twilight sleep birth and electoshock therapy, which we now shake our heads in awe that we could have ever allowed it in the first place.
