This contribution is a powerful demonstration of what strategic partnerships can achieve when resources are directed towards creating sustainable impact. It is also a recognition of the work URCS continues to do to advance the wellbeing and dignity of the girl child.
Thank you, @AbsaUganda , for turning the energy of the Run into an investment in girls, education and a better future.

Funded by the Belgian Red Cross, the Uganda Red Cross Society has commenced implementation of the Humanitarian Protection Project (HP3) with an inception meeting currently underway in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement, Kikuube District.
The inception workshop brought together Uganda Red Cross Society staff, development partners, and local authorities to align on the project’s objectives and implementation approach.
The HP3 project seeks to increase access to multi-sectoral humanitarian services for households most at risk, addressing the key threats affecting their protection, safety, and wellbeing, with particular attention to people with special needs and other vulnerable groups.
The workshop was officially opened by Mr. Freddie Mark Sempiira, Livelihood Sector Lead at Kyangwali Refugee Settlement, who represented the Camp Commandant. In his remarks, he reaffirmed the settlement leadership’s commitment to supporting the successful implementation of the HP3 project and strengthening collaboration among all stakeholders to improve the lives of refugees and host communities.

In the bustling town of Bwera in Kasese District, along the busy Mpondwe border crossing to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, cross-border movement remains a lifeline for trade, livelihoods, and regional connection.
However, the ongoing risk of Ebola virus disease has made strengthened public health measures essential to protect both travelers and border communities.
In line with guidance from Uganda’s Ministry of Health, all travelers are now required to undergo routine temperature screening and mandatory handwashing at key transit points. These simple but highly effective infection prevention practices play a vital role in breaking potential chains of transmission, especially in high-traffic settings where exposure risk is elevated.
Reinforcing these national efforts, the Uganda Red Cross Society has taken a leading humanitarian role on the ground in Bwera. Our volunteers are strategically stationed at bus parks and entry points, where they provide both practical support and health education to travelers. Their work goes beyond enforcement of hygiene measures, they actively engage communities, demonstrating proper handwashing techniques and explaining why consistent hygiene is critical in preventing the spread of infection.
At every bus park entrance, these trained volunteers ensure that no traveler boards a vehicle without first cleaning their hands, offering guidance with dignity, care, and respect. Their presence has become a visible symbol of reassurance in a period of heightened public health concern.
Through these coordinated efforts, the government leadership, community compliance, and the unwavering support of the Red Cross movement Bwera’s response reflects a strong, united front to safeguard lives, maintain safe mobility, and protect families on both sides of the border during this challenging time.

Without first aid skills, you may be less able to help yourself or others in a life-threatening emergency, which can increase the risk of serious harm or death. Learning first aid & CPR is valuable. It can make a critical difference during the first few minutes of an emergency.
With support from the Qatar Red Crescent, our teams conducted a compassionate humanitarian intervention in the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement during the blessed days of Eid al-Adha, last week.
Grounded in the Islamic values of charity (sadaqah), compassion, and solidarity with those in need, the initiative reflected the spirit of Eid—sharing blessings, strengthening bonds of brotherhood, and ensuring that vulnerable families are not left behind during moments of religious significance.
A total of 30 cows were slaughtered, and the meat was distributed to over 500 refugee and vulnerable Muslim households. This act of service was intended to uphold human dignity and bring relief and joy to families, enabling them to partake in a meaningful Eid celebration despite the hardships of displacement.
