Newly appointed Cabinet Secretary for Health Dr Deborah Mlongo Barasa was named on a 2019 list of doctors removed from the medical register for non-compliance with Section 14 of the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act.

The document dated April 23, 2019, lists 49 doctors who were deregistered for failing to comply with necessary medical regulations.

Kenyans have expressed their disbelief that her name appears alongside those barred from practising medicine in Kenya yet she is the person President William Ruto now wants to be entrusted with overseeing the entire health sector.

According to LinkedIn, Dr Deborah Mlongo Barasa is an Internal Medicine physician and Infectious Disease Expert currently serving at the World Health Organization.

Her ascent to WHO is nothing short of bewildering considering the troubling past aspects of her career.
