18 women developed kidney failure. Swollen legs. Puffed faces. Frothy urine. They had all bought the same fairness cream online. Goree. Made in Pakistan. Sold through Instagram pages and Meesho.
This happend in Nagpur, India. Doctors ordered tests to find the cause. Lab tests shocked everyone. Mercury at seven hundred fifty two times the legal limit. Lead too. The cream had no expiry date. No batch number. No manufacturer name. Just poison in a jar.
Mercury blocks an enzyme called tyrosinase. That enzyme makes melanin the pigment that darkens skin. Stop it and new pigment stops forming. Old pigment fades as skin cells shed. The result looks instantly fairer. The catch is mercury also damages kidneys nerves and the brain while doing it.
Doctors biopsied two patients. Membranous nephropathy with NELL-1 deposits. A signature of mercury poisoning. The metal was soaking through skin and settling in kidneys.
On July fourth Maharashtra FDA declared it not of standard quality. Banned Goree. Banned Face Fresh Gold. Banned Golden Star. Raids followed. Stocks worth over ninety lakh rupees were seized.
Then came the criminal cases. Six FIRs across five districts. Section twenty seven of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Up to three years in jail. A Chembur shopkeeper was booked. In Pimpri the Anti-Terrorist Branch arrested a man with twenty three packets. In Sangamner another seller was caught. The FDA even asked for an anti-terrorism squad inquiry.
CDSCO went national in September. Goree and Chandni. Both flagged. Still some shops sell them. People still buy.
The treatment worked when caught early. Stop the cream. Give a modified Ponticelli treatment regimen. Kidneys started recovering. But one doctor warned the truth. With mercury this strong damage can begin in ten to twelve days. Symptoms may stay silent for years. By the time you feel it it may be too late.
That's the story. A cream promised fairness. It delivered kidney failure instead.
@jiyaaverse It has to be ragebait. No one with a functioning brain would say that. Shameless people will say anything to get attention. Better to share an SS & not reply there to increase his viewcount
@jo_olore@chiku_tweetz Ok fair enough Both should be punshed in proportion to the severity of their crim€s There r more such cases but yes most perpetrators of vi0ent crime r still men I take some comfort in the fact that the people arresting & keeping them off the streets to protect us r also men
@Axistyewd@BugCheese324@jaeminstevejobs What's funny is many in the ME & parts of Asia really do beleive that, for the recent wars & unrest that they accuse U$ of orchestrating
@Chikkkupikkku Thanks for the quote tweet. U will get it indirectly through your husband's share no? Or are you unaware of that? Unlike u I'm aware of rights AND accompanying responsibilities.
@Chikkkupikkku@NafsSays No need for ad hominem. I already said I respect a consistent stance. Out of curiosity, what was gained here though? You got part of ur parents property but supposedly lost out a similar part of ur in-laws property (via ur husband's share)? 1/2
@samaina_love@NafsSays Oh sorry, for some reason I misread & thought it's ur uncle. Ur aunts r being very selfish then. I guess there's no record of all the money he spent on them right? Sounds like he was extremely trusting & innocent
@Chikkkupikkku@NafsSays Read again. Are you willing to share your father-in-law'$ property with your husband's sister? Is she not his daughter or is she "paraya dhan"? If u r already sharing or if ur husband has given up his inheritance to his sister & u didn't object, u have my respect
@hiremath41469@TraderVenus@VatsMusings You have to factor in that the daughter will also have to share her father-in-law'$ property with her sister-in-law then? Will she be ready to give her equal share too? Basically no one is really gaining anything then. Paisa yahan se jaakar wahan gaya bas
@Chikkkupikkku@NafsSays Do you believe both wife & sister deserve equal share or no? Isn't ur nanand also ur father-in-law'$ daughter? By ur own argument, she has roots in the house while u r a stranger there? I'm sorry but u said it urself. I'm just showing u the implications
@Chikkkupikkku@NafsSays I have read all that but it rarely happens. Also, if it's about roots, would it make sense for the girl to demand her husband's property too? Shouldn't his own sister$ be more deserving of it since after all they r the ones who have roots in the house, not some stranger?
@CoffeeAndCalm_ On the flip side one can avoid the daily grind of travelling, traffic, d€adline pressures overbearing clients, constant worry about how to retain ur job, pay off house EMI, car EMI, school fees, bills, save & invest..... 2/2
@CoffeeAndCalm_ Unless there are really young children, one can rest during the day, no? Sure morning chores & evening dinner prep will be hectic, depending on whether the household budget can afford a maid & modern equipment such as vaccum bots, dishwasher etc to take off extra load 1/2
@ridhimishra9806@NafsSays But this way the sister's sister-in-law can also claim her half of the property so won't the share get halved on both ends? The brother can also get some property through his wife. All this is on the assumption that each side has equal property
@Chikkkupikkku@NafsSays All that is fine but then all this should also come with added responsibility of providing some part of her or hubby's salary (in case she isn't working) to her maternal home then, only then claim inheritance
