Life is very different from June of last year and that life was already different from June of the year before that and that life was already different from June of the year before that and I look forward to seeing how life will be next June
the crazy thing isn’t an elected official spouting this deranged genocidal rhetoric as much as it is the fact that the vast majority of israeli civilians actually agree with this
the entire first chapter of giovanni’s room has the power to swallow you whole and spit you out, a wholly new person. i am covered in melancholy and haunted by the ghost of a life that i didn’t even live. what the fuck
the bare minimum: 1) calling genocide by its name, 2) having an explicitly anti-zionist public stance, and 3) always naming zionism as both the perpetrator and the root cause of the genocide. anything less than that is cowardly and ahistorical.
actually no one is forcing you to put out a sympathy statement for someone who actively did everything possible to oppress you and direct violence towards you. some of yall look like clowns rn
.@ZohranKMamdani I have told you this on the phone, in person, and I will reiterate it publicly: what you think of the phrase “globalize the intifada”—our beautiful uprising against occupation—is irrelevant, what matters is that it’s a slogan adopted by a movement that is partly responsible for your success and you mustn’t throw them under the bus. We are facing unprecedented levels of state-repression and institutional censorship, both our political organizing and speech are criminalized, and we are confronting genocide for God’s sake. That you choose to continue elevating Jewish feelings over the lives of Palestinians, over the fact of genocide, is nothing more than punching down on those who have helped elevate you, and not to mention, it is a bad electoral strategy considering you are quite literally winning and need not to bow down to Zionist pressure. The tens of thousands of volunteers who have canvassed for you in the scorching hot sun, they are not to be taken for granted. Their support isn’t unconditional. Remember that.
You should be mad that North America’s largest film festival has decided to program and platform genocide apologia, but you should *also* be mad that the filmmaker was a previous board member of the festival.
No filmmaker with an ounce of ethic should be applying to/attending Berlinale. The festival should be cut off from a progressive cultural sphere, if we are to even maintain the idea that we are apart of such a sphere to begin with. It is our job as cultural workers to boycott.
feel like I'm losing my mind over this Maccabi-Amsterdam story
all the media literacy in the world means nothing when the biggest news orgs are reporting a version of events that simply didn't happen
