The archival technique we use to time travel was inspired by the flicker in Stranger Things. We ended up w a Time Bleed, a motif of water soaking through layers of paper revealing the history beneath. But still something to the past as a haunted realm that flickers for SOME of us
All the titles are annoyingly long but here's the full citation so u can make a high res scan at your library: Journal of the Convention of the People of South Carolina, Held in 1860-’61 (Charleston: Evans & Cogswell, Printers to the Convention, 1861), pp329-330
A page from South Carolina's #DeclarationofCauses. We layered it over Jeff in the film, but wanted to give you a sec with it to see how much these dudes 🤤❤️🤑 slavery in what they believed to be their Declaration of Independence.
Note to teachers: Googling "Declaration of Causes" gets you all you need, but those sites are plaintext that look like a blog from 2007. To see that actual document, look up the big book confeds published these in along with all their meeting notes: https://t.co/oa57mNmqoe
Historic Fenway Park is right around the corner from Boston University. And tonight, I walked over and threw out the first pitch at the Boston Red Sox game. Never thought I’d do this. This thing we call life is something. ✌🏾

@WilliamsonStrg When the @BillLeeTN & @RonDeSantisFL of the world want to paint history teaching as "indoctrination," how do we use THE STANDARDS and reading PRIMARY SOURCES as a shield to protect good teaching? How do we empower students to ask: what did these men say in their own time?
Drafts from when we were trying to visualize how OBSESSED the confederacy's founding documents are w SLAVERY. Have students google "Declarations of Causes", read just one state & underline all slavery refs in red, share findings in whole class discussion

@WilliamsonStrg TN's law forbids any curriculum that acknowledges structural racism exists! HOWEVER, for those teachers looking to stay within bounds of law, talk to your principal. This assignment is just reading what confed leaders SAID! Examining BOTH SIDES of a claim via a primary source.
@gocjhunt You can have your students do exactly what we did in our film research: use old maps of the city to figure out exactly where that ol' racist statue was originally erected. Studying monuments is like taking your students to an all-you-can-eat buffet of learning standards
@gocjhunt Also search https://t.co/trHgv4u7BR + Library of Congress for the juicy photos you can't find on google images. Like this photo we found in a tourism brochure, showing the prominent place NOLA memorialized white supremacists who killed cops in the street & stormed the capitol
While filming @itsnotneutral I kept wanting to sneak into the the sad plywood prison where NOLA keeps Lee & PGT. City stonewalled us, and I'm glad cuz it meant the film turns its focus away from these fools, but boy...do they look like some failed X-Men villains up in there
EDENTON, NC: Join @aclu_nc and @NCCREDCJS for a film screening and panel discussion of the @itsnotneutral documentary on Saturday, Sept 24th at 3:30 PM.
