You may have seen the claim that aboriginal Australians have been inhabiting Australia continuously for 60,000 years. Unfortunately two 2024 studies published in Nature show that this can’t be true.
Modern humans (us) have Neanderthal DNA fragments which trace back to an admixture event in Europe no earlier than 45,000-49,000 years ago. As aboriginals have these same neanderthal DNA fragments they could not have been on the Australian continent 60,000 years ago.
As Johannes Krause, the senior author of the Max Plank team put it, “They also indicate that any modern human remains found outside Africa that are older than 50,000 years could not have been part of the common non-African population that interbred with Neanderthals and is now found across much of the world.”
So either the dating of the artefacts in Australia is wrong by 20,000 years or so, or (more likely) these artefacts were not produced by modern humans. This means in turn that the first peoples of Australia were not the Aboriginals. The follow on question is then, what happened to them?

@Batsey06@IMAROOSTAR@CamMagicMan Yep that was the one. Marky scored first then Ronny scored a double and was all over him for the rest of the game. Gonna miss this match up.
@ShmakosSC@NRL_SC_Addicts I wanted to C May but playing same game as Herb ruined that. Then realised I couldn’t get a non scoring player in. Now relying on either Grant, Ford , Martin or Teddy for captain. Probably go with Grant
@The_8thWonder_@ozman024@football360au Honestly, I think he knew this game was always gonna go this way (ie shocking ref display to get the home team across the line). All in for Paraguay.
@AliG040803 Sport is majorly corrupt. They want the US going deep into this event, so there is no way they were ever losing this game. Popovic knows this and played the game. Expecting to see all guns blazing for next game.
