Tall neolib Canadian raised skiing in CO Rockies. My FB religion sums me up= the mtns & hockey. Miss @JessicaRedfield but she continues to inspire me everyday
@Jusebs12@ShellyBradbury rates of vehicle theft which shouldn’t be discounted or accepted, but when looking at violent crime rates even property crime like burglary vs theft Colorado is much safer than many if not the majority of US states. Property crime needs dealt with ofc but context matters IMO
@Jusebs12@ShellyBradbury Reported they then get weighed per capita using the comparatively minuscule number of full time year round residents. These stats make Aspen and Vail look like a street market in India crime wise but overall they’re incredibly safe places. Yes Denver/the Front Range have massive
@Jusebs12@ShellyBradbury And bikes are stolen and reports are actually taken and the thefts are actually investigated more at a rate higher than most other crime outside maybe DUIs in the majority of mountain towns/counties. When those crimes often involving the millions of out of area visitors are
@Jusebs12@ShellyBradbury https://t.co/x4S20ddoFp If you include violent crimes Colorado doesn’t make the top 5 or even 10 most unsafe states. With solely property crime yes we’re ranked 2nd, but that includes and disproportionately weighs that especially in mountain towns lots of expensive gear like skis
@ManitasHooman@XTruckerWill@ElliottWenzler@BernieSanders@AOC@denverpost But Latinos have been in CO mountain towns for decades, often longer than many white transplants and have long been the backbone of resort/tourist economies that would fall apart if forced to depend on most newer arrivals if they don’t refuse these jobs outright.
@ManitasHooman@XTruckerWill@ElliottWenzler@BernieSanders@AOC@denverpost Would never do. When it comes down to hiring from the same pool such as for BoH restaurant work most employers would rather pay a hardworking Latino than a stoned NYC 25 year old working their first job who calls out for hangovers and pow days. There’s bad apples in every group
@ManitasHooman@XTruckerWill@ElliottWenzler@BernieSanders@AOC@denverpost long term instead of jetting back to the East Coast or other big cities they came from when they’re done living their mountain vacation dream like the latter groups. Also they do that jobs that make Mtn towns function like housekeeping, construction etc that the latter groups
@ManitasHooman@XTruckerWill@ElliottWenzler@BernieSanders@AOC@denverpost Neighbors have been here much longer than other groups esp the new coastal remote working elites and trust fund post college party kids booming more and more each year. And unlike those groups they’re more than not hard workers raising families and adding to our communities
@ManitasHooman@XTruckerWill@ElliottWenzler@BernieSanders@AOC@denverpost area (from Leadville down) where Hispanic communities have been here centuries predating the US, and other groups of white/European origin. Not saying I’m for open borders or against immigration reform just that as a mountain native myself many of my Latino/Hispanic friends and
@ManitasHooman@XTruckerWill@ElliottWenzler@BernieSanders@AOC@denverpost If you taught ESL up here for as long as you did you’d know more Latinos in the area than not are documented and here legall, with much of those legal being native born US citizens. Latino communities have been part of mountain towns for generations esp the south central
@altereg0@BianchiWeather Haha nothing was plowed at 2 am like nothing. 91 and 24 have been reopened though. EB 70 is closed 9/6 to 6 though (Silverthorne to Loveland Pass on the east side of the tunnel)
@JonasPitt03 @cosmofromca Haha, I didn't know CA was empty prior to WWII. Prior to that, the US had a strong isolationist policy and stayed out of most world affairs. Also -people- have lived in that area for thousands of years, inhabitants of the La Jolla and Pauma complexes date back to 6500-1000 BC.
@NewtownAction You definitely don't need an AR to hunt or for home security, a shotgun will suffice. My ex used his to drunkenly march me down the train tracks in the middle of the night, though. A single bullet from one put a 6-inch hole in my beautiful friend @JessicaRedfield 's face.
@dragondancing@COKID19830627@9NEWS We do have an outrageous number of migrants from Texas. They've completely overwhelmed our mountain towns at the expense of people who grew up here. The wall around Texas, plus their succession, will hopefully end this crisis! I vote for a limited number of visas ;-)
