Earlier this year, under the visionary leadership of His Excellency President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR @officialABAT, we launched the National Health Fellows Program #NHF, a bold step towards building the next generation of healthcare leaders in Nigeria. From over 360,000 applications nationwide, 774 outstanding young Nigerians were meritoriously selected, and their collective impact has been remarkable across the 774 Local Government Areas @AlgonNationalHQ in Nigeria.

Applications for the second cohort of the National Health Fellowship Program will open on 1 November 2025 and close on 30 November 2025. I call on all passionate young Nigerians across various disciplines to take this opportunity.

After six months of rigorous synchronous and asynchronous learning and community engagement under the close supervision of their mentors, the National Health Fellows are now attempting to apply their skills to community-focused problem-solving with very open minds.

Today, we join the world in wishing Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate a happy birthday in the spirit of what matters most to him as he steers one of the most consequential health reforms of our time.

Earlier this week, at the National Health Financing Dialogue in Abuja, speakers from across the globe reminded Nigeria not to miss this moment. The country is benefiting from the leadership of a President whose agenda places healthcare at the center, and from his choice of a Coordinating Minister who fully grasps the enormity of the task.

"Within four months, at the behest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Pate brought every governor and seventeen development partners into one Compact at the Presidential Villa. At the core lay a Sector-Wide approach (SWAp) hinged on one plan, one budget, one report and one conversation, which for the first time placed Nigeria’s health system under a unified framework for alignment, resource convergence and accountability – on a path to amplifying impact on population health outcomes."

As this coordination takes root, we remain grateful for the privilege of observing the reforms up close. Please join us in wishing Prof. @muhammadpate a happy birthday and many more years of strength and resounding health.
