Levothyroxine is still being prescribed for subclinical hypothyroidism in obese individuals, supposedly to “help them lose weight”.
It doesn’t. Not even 100 grams.
Most of these cases are not even true hypothyroidism, it’s just an altered thyrostat from obesity itself.
TSH < 10 without real hypothyroid symptoms doesn’t need thyroxine.
It medicalizes lifestyle issues and distract people from what’s real issue - Obesity in the community is almost always due to poor lifestyle and overeating rather than the so called “thyroid issue”.
