Instead of questioning how the IPL system functions, outrage is being directed at a single individual because blaming a global icon creates instant headlines.

IPL auctions are not driven by personal whims. A player's presence in the auction means clearance from the BCCI and the IPL governing body. Franchises operate within that approved framework. Holding SRK or KKR responsible for decisions already vetted by the system is not criticism - it's convenience.

What truly exposes the narrative is the selective anger. Every franchise had the same chance to bid. No alarms were raised then. The outrage arrived only after the purchase, and only with SRK's name attached. That makes one thing clear: this isn't about nationalism. It's politics packaged as patriotism.

🚨 OPINION - Long Read🚨

Although it's not our lane to throw opinions around politics but since it involves KKR we would like to put across something.

KKR in the recently concluded auction bought Mustafizur Rahman for IPL 2026. He was included in the list only after BCCI gave him clearance & Government of India didn't issue any objection of having Bangladesh players.

If it's such a simple thing why for last couple of weeks have we seen people attacking KKR and the owner Shahrukh Khan. Let's break it down.

For starters - West Bengal has a state election this year which fully collides with IPL. The election will span for over 2 months in March and April.

Second -there have been attacks on minority in Bangladesh - specifically people of Hindu Religion. The same happens in India to minorities but since cricket is a six team sport internationally with no Indian players allowed to play outside and the cricket economy is practically run by India -so any action or ban won't impact India if other handful cricket countries opt to do the same for minority atrocities in India.

Third -what election campaign is without hate and targeting people based on religion. The Mustafizur buy became such a huge problem also because the state is West Bengal which has an election, the owner is Muslim by religion and an easy punching bag who has been well attacked several times in the past.

Suddenly out of nowhere fraud religious leader, unknown entities have come out to attack KKR & SRK. But they refuse to understand or ask one simple thing - who allowed him?

Last year he played for Delhi Capitals - No drama. Mustafizur Rahman's bid went till 9cr in this auction only because CSK and other teams were Interested but they are not being dragged.
He has in the past played for Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi and Chennai but did we hear anything.

If the government of India asks BCCI to not allow Mustafizur, KKR will release him and probably just go for a replacement thing. A very simple and banal thing but things have been escalated to such a level that it all looks politically motivated, witch hunt and silly needless crap which we see over and over, again and again.

Lastly, to people saying KKR on its own should release Mustafizur. Why will KKR be such an idiot when there is no objection by BCCI and as someone who came into the purse with maximum money to strengthen their squad within which they wanted a left handed bowler just like they have in past with Starc, Spencer, Boult, Johnson, Gurney and here went for the best left arm bowler available in this auction. It's nothing out of the ordinary that KKR has done. They are stacked like that.

All in all KKR will continue to get attacked unless BCCI or the government issue a clarification or ban him since it's an election season colluded with IPL that has religion and nationality as it's discourse.
