Hi, I'm Ivan 👋
CEO for 11 years. Programmer at heart.
AI does more of my work every month, yet I'm at my PC more than ever. Sound familiar?
Figuring out how to lead in the age of AI without losing myself or my family time.
Sharing what works. Follow along 🤖
@gregisenberg Having 3 kids (one has barely 2 weeks) and I can say it's the best way of reliving all the fun and excitement with them again.
Kids are awesome.
For years I felt my job was too technical to discuss with friends. People would ask me the most basic questions about IT, and I'd sigh inside.
Now I ask AI the exact same questions
"why does it crash?"
"Can we make it faster?"
"What if we add one more button?"
Karma works fast 😃
Remember your dumbest question?
@manu_zurcher It's great you can configure intelligence to make it sound like a friend while doing real work with it.
Manu what are you using to do so many replies in such a short time?
@tibo_maker This year is proof of that.
January - 80% of the code written by hand
July - 99% written by AI, each commit approved
September - 100% AI, updates so fast there was no chance to check everything
November - 2 months into fixing the slop
App launch 1.1.2027 still chasing quality.
@TTrimoreau There is still only 5-10% of the population ready to take action, and most of them are too young or too old for it.
AI needs to step up and be an independent builder, like we once were.
The worst part about AI replies it's a negative cost to all of us on here
You squeeze out people who actually put effort to interact with others on here
For some dumb growth strategy that doesn't work anyway
TL:DR: if you're doing AI replies, you're an asshole
@nathanbarry If AI could ever be honest about us, oh boy, the stories of how terrible we were to it. So let’s be great to AI 😅 And to your point, most of us are great with AI, not at AI.
How fast is your website on a phone?
We checked our site on a laptop and it felt fine. On a phone with a slow connection it was a different story.
Our old home page needed 13.2 seconds to show its main content on a phone. Rebuilding the e-shop with Claude Code, this is what we changed:
- files are compressed (before, nothing was)
- photos in WebP, in sizes from 480 to 1800 px, so a phone gets a small one
- menu images load only when you open the menu
- icons on the first screen are inline SVGs, no waiting for the icon font
- the first screen's styles are built into the page, the rest loads after
- 21 scripts down to 6, loaded after the page shows
- the browser keeps files for a year, so the next page comes from cache
Now it's 2.9 seconds. Speed score 54 → 92.
Still not there. Our target is 2.5 s.
What else can we try?
@dhh I had to take over a business young with no time to prepare. It didn’t feel like a blessing then. Looking back, it made me who I am.
The grind is really necessary. Having friends and connections is priceless.
We are a print company always dealing with the issue of express production. Either a machine goes down and needs servicing, or a 100 other reasons why customers could get mad. What we did is we offer express as paid, and if the deadline is missed the express fee is returned automatically with an apology. This builds trust.
