BREAKING NEWS ‼️ The NLRB just announced that Weingarten rights have been expanded to ALL workers including non union employees! Huge victory for the labor movement ✊🏾#unionstrong
There's a high likelihood of a railroad workers strike. News is covering a "deal" which may avert the strike, but they have left the terms of the deal vague. What they omit is that, where the workers' major demand is paid sick leave, the deal offers three *unpaid* days
The rumor going around among rail workers is that the latest deal improvements are:
— Three *unpaid* sick days
— Capping healthcare premiums at $400 month (but possible future pay deductions to pay for this)
— $1k added to the base pay rate
#OtD 11 Sep 1935 two people were killed and many others injured by police who fired on striking workers at the Flour City Ornamental Iron Company in Minneapolis who were fighting for better pay, the eight-hour day, and union recognition. https://t.co/YqHOC4qgPC
Happy Labor Day to our fellow workers in North America! While you're enjoying a well-earned day of rest, have you ever wondered why the US and Canada celebrate the contributions of labor on a different day than the rest of the world? 🧵
Cleveland believed a reminder of the government's brutality toward organized labor would inflame the growing socialist movement in America and embolden labor unions. In 1984 he passed a law adopting Labor Day as a less radical alternative to International Workers Day.
Epilogue: By the mid-50s, some US states so feared the radical nature of May Day that they established their own hyper-patriotic holidays of Loyalty Day and Law Day on May 1 to celebrate unwavering obedience to the law. None have been made national holidays -yet!
There's nothing wrong with a good ol' day off! But while you celebrate the achievements of labor today, don't forget the sacrifices it took to win the 8-hour workday and the weekend. And maybe while you party with your fellow workers, you can tell them the real story of Labor Day
🧵: Today, the NLRB issued a decision in Tesla, Inc., in which the Board held that employer attempts to restrict the wearing of union insignia, including clothing and buttons, are presumptively unlawful, absent special circumstances.

BREAKING: The NLRB has ruled that Tesla violated the law by restricting its workers from wearing pro-union apparel.
Going forward, attempts by employers to "impose any restriction on the display of union insignia" will be presumed illegal.
Union-busting seems to be a part of day-to-day life for many workers lately. Despite a flood of misinformation from bosses, we've seen countless firsts this year, including the first unionized REI locations. Congratulations @reiunionsoho and @reiunionberk
