UNDER UBA SANI, A NEW ERA OF VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT DAWNS IN KADUNA
By Auwalu Ibrahim Mustapha
On Thursday, August 27, 2026, Kaduna State did more than celebrate the graduation of 4,050 young men and women. It marked a significant moment in the state’s human-capital development journey and offered a compelling illustration of Governor Uba Sani’s governing philosophy: that the fight against poverty, unemployment and insecurity must ultimately be anchored in the capacity of citizens to earn, create and participate meaningfully in the economy.
At the maiden graduation ceremony of the Kaduna State Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development (IVTSD), trainees from the Institute’s three campuses received the National Skills Qualification (NSQ) Level II after successfully completing their programmes. For Governor Sani, the occasion represented far more than the presentation of certificates. It was, he said, “celebrating competence, discipline, resilience and the dignity of productive work,” while opening “a new chapter in Kaduna State’s human-capital journey.”
The significance of the initiative lies in the circumstances from which it emerged. Kaduna, like many parts of Nigeria, has had to contend with unemployment, poverty, insecurity, weakened infrastructure and deep social vulnerabilities. The response of the Uba Sani administration has been to broaden the traditional definition of development. “Development cannot be reduced to just roads, bridges and buildings,” the Governor said. “Infrastructure is important, but its ultimate purpose is to enlarge human possibility.”
That philosophy explains why education, skills development, healthcare, agriculture, financial inclusion, enterprise and infrastructure have been placed at the centre of the administration’s development agenda. The objective is to create an environment in which a young person does not have to depend solely on the prospect of a government job, a woman can convert a skill into an enterprise, a person living with disability can participate productively in the economy and an artisan can move from informal subsistence towards recognised, competitive craftsmanship.
The three IVTSD campuses: the Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa Campus in Rigachikun, the Abubakar Dangiwa Umar Campus in Soba and the Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Campus in Samaru Kataf, were deliberately established to serve Kaduna’s three senatorial districts. Their programmes cover 14 trades, including electrical installation, welding and fabrication, aluminium fabrication, computer hardware repairs and maintenance, catering and hospitality, masonry, refrigeration and air conditioning, fashion design and garment making, carpentry and joinery, painting and decoration, tiling, plumbing and pipe fitting, solar installation and automotive mechatronics.
The training combines practical instruction with theory, literacy, numeracy, entrepreneurship and soft skills. Through collaboration with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Institute operates in accordance with National Occupational Standards and awards the National Skills Qualification under the Nigerian Skills Qualifications Framework. This is important because the ambition is not simply to teach young people trades, but to give them credible qualifications that can open pathways to employment, entrepreneurship and further professional development.
The Federal Government’s recognition of the initiative has strengthened its significance. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned the Institute during his working visit to Kaduna in June 2025, an event that underscored the alignment between the state’s skills-development agenda and the Federal Government’s broader emphasis on youth empowerment and workforce development.

I am deeply gratified by the successful maiden graduation of 4,050 trainees of the Kaduna State Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development (KIVTSD), drawn from our three campuses strategically serving the three senatorial zones of Kaduna State.
The commendations from top officials of the Federal Government, industry stakeholders, parents and, most importantly, our graduates affirm our conviction that investment in skills is an investment in the future of Kaduna. Through a ₦810 million grant, start-up support, internationally recognised qualifications and meaningful industry linkages, we are deliberately bridging the gap between training and opportunity, ensuring that skills translate into livelihoods, enterprise and sustainable economic value.
Of particular significance is the Federal Ministry of Education’s decision, through the Honourable Minister, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, to adopt KIVTSD’s training manuals as reference materials for the development of a nationwide guide for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme. Equally encouraging is the recognition by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), under the leadership of Prof. Idris Bugaje, of our Institutes as among the best in Nigeria, on account of their excellence, modern facilities and industry-standard technology. These acknowledgements affirm that the Kaduna Model is not merely producing skilled young people; it is shaping a framework with growing national relevance.
I remain profoundly grateful to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his steadfast support and partnership with sub-national governments. His leadership has expanded the space for states to innovate, act decisively and deliver more meaningfully for their citizens.
The KIVTSD journey has only begun. We are building a Kaduna where skills become opportunity, opportunity becomes enterprise, and enterprise becomes dignity, prosperity and lasting impact.

My remarks at the annual Maulud Nabiyy celebration, where I spoke about unity, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence. I also urged our people to imbibe the teachings of the Prophet (SAW), which remain a timeless source of guidance on compassion, humility, justice, tolerance and selfless service to humanity.
Earlier today, I attended the Maulud Nabiyy celebration organised by Fityanul Islam, Kaduna Chapter, at Murtala Square, Kaduna, where I was warmly received by a large and jubilant gathering.
I used the occasion to express my profound appreciation to our religious leaders, particularly the Imams and Ulamas, for their tireless efforts in promoting peace, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence across our communities. Their moral authority and sustained commitment remain invaluable to the preservation of harmony in our State.
I also urged our people to cherish and protect the peace that has made it possible for us to gather freely and joyfully in celebration of the life and exemplary teachings of our Noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The successful observance of this year’s Maulud Nabiyy is, in many respects, a testament to the progress we are making in restoring peace and stability across Kaduna State. We must therefore remain united in our determination to consolidate these gains and build a durable foundation for peaceful coexistence.
I assured our people of faith that our administration will continue to support initiatives that strengthen interfaith dialogue, deepen mutual respect and advance peace, unity and shared prosperity. Together, we shall build a Kaduna anchored in justice, tolerance and collective progress.

On the auspicious occasion of Eid-el-Maulud, I extend warm greetings and best wishes to our brothers and sisters in Kaduna State, Nigeria, and across the world as we commemorate the birth of our Noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The life and teachings of the Prophet (SAW) remain a timeless source of guidance on compassion, humility, justice, tolerance and selfless service to humanity. His profound concern for the vulnerable, unwavering commitment to peace, and steadfast pursuit of justice remind us of our shared responsibility to build a society in which every citizen is valued, protected and given the opportunity to flourish.
As leaders, public servants and citizens, we must draw deeply from these enduring virtues by placing the common good above personal interests, serving with humility, upholding justice and strengthening the bonds that unite us.
In Kaduna State, we remain resolute in translating these principles into meaningful progress through investments in quality education, sustainable agriculture, accessible healthcare, youth empowerment, economic opportunity and critical infrastructure, while advancing initiatives that foster peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding across our diverse communities.
I therefore call on all citizens to reject violence, hatred and division, and to embrace dialogue, tolerance, empathy and peaceful coexistence. Our diversity is a source of strength. Through unity, mutual respect and collective endeavour, we can build a Kaduna State that is more peaceful, prosperous, inclusive and just.
Happy Eid-el-Maulud!

I was in Osogbo today as Chairman of the Monitoring and Compliance Committee of the APC Osun State Governorship Campaign Council, joining our great party at its Grand Rally in support of our candidate for the gubernatorial election that holds this Saturday, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).
I delivered a goodwill message and engaged with our dear citizens from northern parts of the country that reside in Osun State, underscoring the imperative of peaceful, responsible and inclusive participation in Saturday’s election. Osun stands at a defining moment, and the choice before its people is both consequential and clear: to embrace the Renewed Hope Agenda of our great leader, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and open the way to greater opportunities, investment and transformation.
The APC has demonstrated that meaningful development is possible when leadership is purposeful, visionary and firmly anchored in the aspirations of the people. With AMBO, the very popular and experienced gubernatorial candidate of APC, Osun can attract greater investment, expand economic opportunities, empower its youthful population and harness its abundant human and material resources for sustainable growth.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is one of Nigeria’s foremost champions of democracy and remains deeply committed to peace, justice and fairness. We are confident that, under his leadership, the Osun election will be free, fair, peaceful and credible.
The impressive turnout, the enthusiasm of our supporters and the palpable optimism across Osun are unmistakable. The people are ready for the APC and for Renewed Hope. I therefore urge the people of Osun to come out peacefully on Saturday and vote for AMBO.

I was honoured to participate in the International Conference on “Diversity and Social Peace: Partnership for a Promising Future,” organised by the Muslim World League and Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The gathering of leaders and stakeholders from across religious, ethnic, political and racial divides reaffirmed a profound truth: our diversity should be a source of strength, not division. Peaceful coexistence is indispensable to Nigeria’s stability, development and shared prosperity.
In Kaduna State, we have demonstrated that inclusive governance can fundamentally reshape the narrative. Since assuming office, our administration has pursued a leadership philosophy that recognises every citizen as an equal stakeholder, irrespective of religion, ethnicity or political affiliation. Through sustained dialogue, community engagement and purposeful partnerships, we have confronted longstanding sources of tension, rebuilt confidence and strengthened the bonds that hold our communities together. Today, Kaduna is more peaceful, and our Kaduna Peace Model is increasingly inspiring other states to embrace inclusive approaches to insecurity and ethno-religious challenges.
I commend the Muslim World League and JIBWIS for convening this timely and consequential dialogue. I equally appreciate the Muslim World League led by the Secretary-General, Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa for choosing Kaduna for this landmark Cardiac Centre, the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria and among the best in Nigeria. The choice of Kaduna is a global recognition of our administration’s commitment to inclusive leadership, religious harmony, peaceful coexistence and deliberate investment in healthcare. Established in partnership with the Kaduna State Government, the Centre is a fitting recognition of the peace, trust and progress we have collectively nurtured.

I warmly felicitate with the National Chairman of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, on the auspicious occasion of his 58th birthday. A distinguished academic, accomplished technocrat and thoughtful political leader, Professor Yilwatda has brought to public service an uncommon blend of intellectual depth, strategic clarity and a deep sense of responsibility. His journey is a compelling testament to the value of knowledge placed at the service of leadership and nation-building.
Since assuming the leadership of our great party, he has demonstrated commendable steadiness, political maturity and a clear understanding of the imperative of building a stronger, more cohesive and forward-looking APC. At a consequential moment in our national political evolution, his stewardship is helping to give the party renewed purpose, strategic direction and institutional focus under the able guidance of our great leader, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. I am confident that the foundations being strengthened under his leadership will position the APC for greater cohesion and enduring success as we look towards 2027 and beyond.
On this milestone, I celebrate not merely another year in the life of a distinguished Nigerian, but 58 years of learning, service, sacrifice and contribution to the advancement of our country. I pray that Almighty God will continue to grant Professor Yilwatda sound health, wisdom, courage, divine guidance and renewed strength, and bless him with many more years of impactful service to our party and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
