People as a rule just do not like random strangers approaching them. We assume they want something from us; we are usually not wrong.

Which is why it kills me that men take their low rates of success with STRANGERS seriously. It's not a simple question of whether or not she finds you unattractive, it's that she's human & many humans don't immediately warm up to -- and are even distrustful of -- strangers.
