Hari ini saya bersama jemaah menunaikan solat jenazah tokoh ilmuwan dan pemikir agung peradaban Islam, Allahyarham Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas di Masjid Al-Taqwa TTDI.

Pemergian Allahyarham, seorang Profesor Diraja dan sarjana yang amat dihormati, merupakan kehilangan besar buat dunia kerana telah menabur bakti besar dalam memartabatkan tradisi ilmu, adab dan tamadun Islam.

Saya juga sempat menyampaikan salam takziah kepada ahli keluarga Allahyarham serta menzahirkan penghargaan terhadap khazanah pemikiran yang amat bernilai yang ditinggalkan, khususnya dalam memperkasa kefahaman mengenai konsep ilmu, adab serta peranan Islam dalam membentuk peradaban yang luhur.

Sesungguhnya jasa dan sumbangan Allahyarham akan terus dikenang dan menjadi sumber inspirasi kepada generasi ilmuwan serta umat Islam dalam meneruskan tradisi keilmuan yang berteraskan hikmah dan nilai.

Semoga Allah SWT mencucuri rahmat ke atas roh Allahyarham, mengampuni segala dosa serta menempatkannya dalam kalangan hamba-Nya yang beriman dan beramal soleh.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Royal Laureate Professor Tan Sri Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas. He was, by any measure, one of the greatest minds of our age, a philosopher who asked not just what we know, but what knowledge is for. Through his voluminous and seminal works including “Islam and Secularism” and his magnum opus “Prolegomena to the Metaphysics of Islam,” he challenged the secularisation of knowledge and set out the intellectual foundations of an Islamic worldview. Malaysia heard him. The Muslim world heard him.

He leaves us on the 18th of Ramadan, at the age of 95. That is a life well lived and a departure well earned.

On behalf of the Government and people of Malaysia, I extend my deepest condolences to his family and to all who sat at his feet. May Allah grant him His mercy and the highest station among the righteous. Al-Fatihah.

You have a Lord who forgives your sins. This is the beauty about tawbah. Coming back to Allah. First of all, you recognise and admit that you did something wrong. This is a great virtue. We do not justify our sins. We admit we did something wrong, and then we come back to the One who is Oft Forgiving. We have a Lord who is Merciful and with your repentance He loves you more and more. The more you do tawbah, the more Allah loves you. But it is upon you also to notice your sins. If you are not aware of your sins, you won't be able to do tawbah.

You are not created to work from morning to evening like beasts and live an animal life. We are not created to enjoy the pleasures of this world and fulfil the whims of our bodies. What do you want? Do you want the Deen or the dunya? Yet you can get both of them. If you opt for the deen, you will get the deen and the dunya together. You will survive in the next life, and you will also have a good portion in this life
