It’s Girl Power today @dsairambulance keeping the people of Dorset and Somerset safe - Pilot - Hannah Nobbs, Critical Care Practitioner - Lauren Dyson and HEMS Doctors - Kate Crewdson and Émilie Howlin. The lucky Captain - Paul Nolan! On the late shift now till 2am 🚁
The @demishassabis film The Thinking Game is brilliant, has already been watched 160m times - and is probably the best advert for the UK’s centrality to the future of high level globally important research and therefore for the world economy… from AI itself to its applications in every corner of frontier science… the film is a great introduction for any young people in your life to this frontier.
Both a former PM and a current Cabinet minister told me, separately, that Demis’ insistence on staying in the UK as a condition of Deepmind sale amid attempts from Musk, Google & others to move him and it over to Silicon Valley has been of critical importance to the UK… I asked a number of related questions when I visited Google HQ including inside DeepMind’s US HQ last month including a visit to its academic library below… will tweet out some of the details you may have missed from that in the next few days, in the mean time, very much worth watching the film… perhaps even more than Elf!
Merry Christmas… and a happy NY!
In the new Cabinet… Parrs Wood High School in Didsbury, Manchester, appears to be Labour’s equivalent of Eton… (it was threatened with closure when my sister was there in the 80s… and then rebuilding was only funded by selling the playing fields to a ten pin bowling alley…
@BBCNews It’s all about the football! It will be sunny & England will still be in the tournament but Scotland knocked out! The feelgood factor and current low inflation are Rishi’s best chance at forming a minority government. Rishi praying that Luke Shaw is fit in time for the Euros 😀
On the 6th October 2023 I shared a link on X to a Mail Online article entitled ‘Militant union leader at the heart of doctors strikes is a Labour activist who boasted of charging the NHS for a strike cover shift. I accept that my words were misleading as the subject in question Dr Tom Dolphin was not on strike on the date of the shift in question but was simply covering a shift as a consultant for junior doctors who were on strike on 11th August 2023. I would like to offer my sincerest apologies to Dr Dolphin for any distress upset caused. I will also like to add that I understand that Dr Dolphin actually donated his pay for the covered shift which I believe was £1870 to the BMA strike fund and whilst I do not agree with the strikes I want to go on the record to say that I think it is a very unselfish act on the part of Dr Dolphin to put his money into something he strongly believes in. I will make the same contribution to compensate the upset I may have caused Dr Dolphin. Please Repost.
I am a NHS consultant. I am financially comfortable, in a job I love, so why am I striking tomorrow?
Answer: Because the next generation will not be able to live off what I do today. The juniors that will become these consultants know this and are leaving already.
Why? 🧵 👇
The Consultants of Dorset hospital have written a letter to @SteveBarclay
They strike tomorrow
This letter is incredible
I challenge anyone to refute a single point in it
Worth a read for you too @wesstreeting
@itvnews@Peston Really desperately sad to hear this news. She interviewed me in Bournemouth when I was Clinical Lead in the Emergency Department. Probing and intelligent and putting a nervous interviewee at ease with a warming smile. My thoughts with the whole team at ITN and her family…
@Stevecall10 @carolecadwalla@TiceRichard@IsabelOakeshott@GavinWilliamson@guardian Saved! Here's the compiled thread: https://t.co/h9wRDw1ysY

This is not ideal way to publish & I invite @TiceRichard, @IsabelOakeshott & @GavinWilliamson a right to reply & will add here.
But no mainstream outlet covered trial other than @guardian. And significant new evidence went unreported.
That can & should be in public domain.

Thank you @Tobias_Ellwood for coming and seeing us today @UHD_NHS at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Good to talk with our staff about working through this winter & seeing how our emergency department and wards are coping right now. Focus on patient safety
@RishiSunak Congratulations @RishiSunak - I have never voted for your party or for Brexit but as much as I respect & admire @Keir_Starmer, the last thing this country needs is a General Election with all the ensuing uncertainty. Hope you and @Jeremy_Hunt deliver some stability and hope!🤞🏽🇬🇧
