I’ve had several people ask me how I’m doing now after surgery to remove half of my thyroid gland and the cancerous tumors growing on it, so here’s a little update. 🤍
I’m recovering very well, thank goodness. Although talking, swallowing, and moving my head and neck have been difficult at times, I’ve been lucky enough to experience very minimal pain. The few times I did have pain, the prescribed opioids quickly resolved it. Clearly, I haven’t been letting this slow me down too much (although I probably should be taking things a little easier than I have been), considering the amount of chasing I’ve done this past week… with likely more to come next week.
I want to thank everyone who has checked in on me and sent words of encouragement. It truly has meant the world to me. I also want to specifically thank @TylersWXcorner and @JordanS_WX for letting me tag along with them as they drove during chases this week, as I was unable to drive. I’m so lucky to be a part of this unique community of truly wonderful people who always have each other’s backs.
Oh, and two more very important things before I go: (1) Fuck cancer, and (2) never stop chasing! 🌪️

INCREDIBLE cycloidal markings left behind by a powerful tornado in Washburn, Illinois from yesterday. This is the most impressive tornado damage I’ve ever seen, I’m in awe of these photos I took.
I chased the entire lifespan of the Hebron Indiana tornado this evening that had to of lasted 30+ minutes. Significant house and tree damage along its path I did not document because search and rescue was ongoing from other storm chasers thankfully. This tornado turned into a wedge multiple times but I was chasing solo so pictures with darkness was hard to get. Hope everyone effected from this tornado is ok. Not fun to see the damage first hand and moments after impact. Honestly it's the worst thing about chasing. #inwx
Tonight is without a doubt the craziest night of my life. The Hebron/Kouts tornado missed my house by a mile. An hour beforehand, my dad went out to go storm spot. He had one phone and a go pro. He sent his stream to me with his phone and recorded with his go pro as I navigated him from Illinois on the phone. He streamed nearly the entire lifespan of that tornado bringing SW of Hebron and ending near Wanatah. No radar, no maps, just my direction as he hooked sliced through the RFD of a strong tornado. Thanks to him, and @StormCat5_, my community was able to have 15 minutes of visual advanced notice that the tornado was coming. Remarkably a failed occlusion saved my town as the tornado shot northward before continuing east.
Being “good” at something you love is easy — because you eat, sleep and breath it. You put in the extra work, miles, effort etc. because you care organically.
On the flip side, if those efforts fall short — even for factors beyond one’s control — it’s a little soul-crushing.
Huge props to everyone who grabbed incredible video and images of the tornadoes in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin today. My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone affected by these violent tornadoes that happened and are ongoing. Please have a safety plan in place and have a way to get warnings. 🫂
