To evaluate variants in the Bible, ask three questions:
1. Is there an actual difference in meaning, or merely a difference in wording?
2. Is the difference material or substantive?
3. Does the larger context disqualify a potential translation?

Episode of Thinking about Faith is now out on Apple, Spotify, iHeartRadio and Amazon. We are discussing whether or not the Book of Mormon is reliable #lds#christianity#apologetics#bookofmormon
I was reading Genesis today and I noticed something I don’t think I’ve noticed before.
Prior to the famous destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah for their sins (Genesis 19) God actually rescued those same people, using Abraham to save them and their wives and children in the battle of the kings (Genesis 14).
What are we to make of this?
Perhaps it shows a pattern of God revealing himself to people and being gracious even up until it finally is time to judge. Do not take his kindness or grace as permission to sin or some kind of promise that judgment won’t come.
Indeed, about 150 years after Jonah’s preaching led Ninevah to repentance we had Nahum show up and tell that same city that destruction was now coming.
After the golden days of Solomon the kingdom split under his son’s foolishness.

Gardening isn’t something you do once. It requires faithfulness over time. That’s one of the reasons we’re so grateful for our Strategic Partners. Their faithful monthly support allows us to continue planting seeds through Reality conferences, STR U, Outposts, podcasts, articles, and other resources—trusting that God will use those efforts in ways we may never fully see this side of eternity.
One life reached. Thousands more impacted. If you’d like to help us continue planting seeds and investing in people for years to come, we invite you to become one of our newest Strategic Partners. Will you be one of the 100? Learn more at https://t.co/6PTzsbp2hV.
Our goal for August is to welcome 100 new Strategic Partners who will faithfully invest in our work month after month.

Hill sprints are starting to look like hill SPRINTS again! So grateful I GET to do this.
You can live life with a “get to” mentality or a “got to” mentality—the choice is yours every day. Since last summer, I’ve gained so much gratitude for the things I GET to do again. When everything is taken from you and you can’t do anything under your own power, you realize just how much you took for granted.
For me: coaching practice, playing in the yard with my kids, watching them compete in sports—even doing hill sprints.
It wasn’t that long ago that I wouldn’t have been able to walk up that hill. Now, by the grace of God and the willpower to grind every day, I’m back to sprinting.
Stop taking things for granted and appreciate the things we GET to do.
Here are three challenges to persuading a Latter-day Saint or Jehovah’s Witness:
1. The spiritual darkness involved with both of those groups.
Satan is a liar appearing as an angel of light. He has blinded the mind of the unbeliever and held him captive.
2. The social element.
Both of these organizations have a strong, cohesive community. There are sanctions against thinking outside of the box.
3. The similar language.
They tend to use the same terms as classical Christians, but mean different things.
Amy Hall comments, “It’s as difficult and as easy for God to save them as anyone else. It’s always a spiritual problem, and God can change their hearts. Make your goal clarity, not persuasion. That takes a lot of the pressure off of you and off of them. Let the Holy Spirit move if he desires to move. Be confident he can change their hearts.”
