@smbrander@500womensci@500WS_Corvallis @ORSTATEADVANCE Good advice for dads and grandpas too. When I first started it was so encouraging to hear male colleagues say that they couldn't attend a meeting because of childcare duties.
Congrats to @etc_editor for adopting double-blind peer review for articles submitted to Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry. I like it!

@peiprairiegirl @loleen_berdahl @mcgillu So far so good! Although now that I've started it is hard to tear myself away for other "more pressing" things (like preparing for first lectures tomorrow!)

Me: I desperately want a career in academia, but I look at what you do, and I just can’t do that.
PhD advisor: Of course you can’t…
What followed was so impactful and empowered me to start dismantling my biggest career barrier. Maybe it can help you too:

Hey folks, As you head off to conferences, remember not to compare yourself to others, to avoid basking in academic gossip, to do something good for someone coming after you in the academy, and that this should always be about the work and not the shine. Love, MB
Whenever I find myself getting v concerned about the future of life on Earth, I’m comforted thinking of the humble tardigrade. Sure, humans may not be here long in the grand scheme of things, but water bears will certainly persevere for millions of years after we’re gone.
Grateful to @SETAC_world for giving the opportunity to present a plenary on epigenetics. As promised, recommended further reading. #SETACSacramento
