This new survey of 13,574 writers by @ALCS_UK adds to the mountain of evidence that creators strongly oppose the unlicensed training of gen AI models on their work. Some highlights:

- 91% believe they should be asked permission for their works being used in training. Only 3% don't.
- 92% want compensation for historic training on their works.
- Only 8% of writers knew their work had been used as training data. This emphasizes the need for opt-in consent, as opposed to giving creators 'opt-out rights' - how can you opt out if you don't know it's happening?
