Ever since Anthropic came out with "computer use" in October 2024, I have been trying to make it use the calculator to perform some simple calculations, like "1+2". Alas, I never got it to work reliably.

Now OpenAI also has come out with computer use, so I tried again. Same deal. Does not work.

Some of the common failure modes across both models are confusing + and %, not understanding that * maps to x, starting out well, but then making a mistake and getting caught in a loop of deletion and insertion before giving up, and last but not least, computing the wrong answer but insisting that the display shows the expected answer.

Anyway, the singularity is probably much further out than we think.

We denderen met het 'handhaving/Wet DBA'-dossier richting een herhaling van het Wet DBA debacle van 2016/2017. Het een groot verschil: toen was er een Staats Fin (Wiebes) die in staat was om (aanvankelijk) het parlement te overtuigen. BBB Kamerlid RIkkers benoemde gisteren ws wat wel de kern van het probleem is: de webmodule (voor opdrachtgevers) en de (online) ondernemercheck (voor zzp) in intern tegenstrijdig en komen tot andere antwoorden. Dat is best uit te leggen, maar dan kom je op termen als holistische benadering, verschil arbeidsrecht en fiscaalrecht, dat een werkgever zowel inhoudingsplichtig kan zijn rond loonheffing terwijl iemand ook fiscaal gezien ondernemer is. Dat de werkgever een naheffing (na 1 jan 2025) loonheffing weer kan en zal verhalen op de zzp'ers (en dat dat niet raar is, wat die belasting moet de werkende sowieso betalen). Nu goed => je moet wel erg diep in het dossier zitten om dat allemaal te begrijpen. Dat geldt niet voor de doorsnee organisatie die met zzp'ers werkt en niet voor de zzp'ers zelf. De regels zijn simpelweg: niet begrijpelijk, niet uitlegbaar en niet uitvoerbaar. Dus krijg je reacties (zoals bij de inhuur van zzp ict bij de Rijksoverheid zelf): dan je maar stop met alle inhuur van zzp. Als je als kabinet niet de onderliggende complexiteit en onduidelijkheid onder ogen wil zien en het debat hierover niet aan durft (zoals gisteren, met vrijwel uitsluitend ontwijkende antwoorden), dan kom je ook niet tot een oplossing en doe je niet aan het creëren van een draagvlak. Immers: je legt niets uit, je laat geen onderliggende visie zien en zo werk je ook niet naar een oplossing toe. En dat terwijl er niemand te vinden is die zegt: verleng het handhavingsmoratorium. Juist ook omdat de weerstand van gisteren binnen de coalitie zit, ga je nu de ouderwetse achterkamertjes krijgen rond het opstellen van moties, waar pas over een paar weken gestemd wordt. Zonde. Met wat meer politiek lenigheid en vooral veel meer duidelijkheid gisteren was dat niet nodig geweest.
