GP championing quality patient-focussed NHS care. EOL Clinical lead Notts ICS. I care about our planet & people. Making every day count! Now moved to Bluesky.
GPs split over assisted dying plans, BBC research suggests - BBC News. The majority 50%are against. Lots of issues still need addressing. https://t.co/2n7fNRKXaq
As we count down to the 3rd gov vote on the MIA bill, hospices are closing & community support for the dying threatened, how can a state endorsed dying service be condoned?

We are closing today’s conference by reflecting, learning and sharing across the nations.
Cross nation agreement for the need to normalise advance care planning. 😍✅

I am troubled by Trump.
But I’m even more troubled by the Christians who defend him.
Trump worships himself.
That is called idolatry.
He has made the seven deadly sins into a way of life. He has repeatedly mocked the fruits of the Spirit and the Sermon on the Mount.
I do hope that Donald Trump someday repents and comes to know Jesus as Lord… but this we can say for sure — he should not be Pope… or President.
Follow Jesus. Not Trump.

“A “judge plus” panel is not an MDT, nor does it come close to being one, because no one on the panel knows the patient. Moreover, the panel’s scrutiny comes only at the end of the process, not at the beginning” https://t.co/KdHQSy7tba
@andrewpakes_@LabourConcernAD Scrutiny has been appalling & the amendments so far have made matters worse re safeguards. It needs scrapping & the Danish method of addressing such important ethical issues employed.
This seems to be a question on which much debate now turns.
How much risk are we willing to take with other people's lives in order for a few to secure this goal in theirs?
I don't usually have much appetite for standing in people's way, but this Bill is a threat to us all.
Nominations are now open for the 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 & 𝐄𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 2025!

If the bill does pass we will soon have a national suicide service fully funded by the NHS, while palliative care is 30% funded, at best.

Assisted suicide is the ultimate attempt to control the one thing we would love to master, but cannot avoid: death. Now even death is a task to be managed, arranged, scheduled.
My thoughts on AD & our deathly impulse to control everything in @spectator

How good are doctors at predicting 6 month life expectancy?
Honest answer: Pathetic.
A study of over 100k terminally ill patients showed only 32% accuracy in predicting the patient was in their final 6 months.
A third of those patients were still alive over a year later.
This Assisted Suicide "safeguard" is not much better than tossing a coin.
Doctors are not psychics. We cannot see your future. You should not end your life based on our best guess.

Coming away from the @hospiceuk conference inspired & motivated. Proud to share my work from @NLondonHospice and more deeply committed to the importance of @GSFCentre. The GSF materials & structured approach to care in the last yrs of life are so powerful in any setting.
Yes, a quality #ReSPECT plan DOES result in better patient outcomes - its better for all concerned too looking at wider benefits.

@NHSEngland
Hmm there is a new study from @OHENews that concludes that 20 people in the UK die in pain every day, even with the best palliative care.
I’ve had a look at the data / method and I’m not convinced.

Thank you @guardian for asking me to contribute.
Assisting someone to die is far cheaper than ensuring they have the care they need to make life worth living.
Yet we don't even fund palliative care properly as it is - let alone 'safeguard' dying people.
