Charlie Kirk leaving Timpagno Regional Hospital in Orem, Utah for his journey home. Charlie was an average American who became a Patriot and affected the entire world. George RR Martin said it best, “When you tear out a man’s tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you’re only telling the world that you fear what he might say. RIP Charlie Kirk!
Ben Askren giving us live updates of his condition and recovery just shows you the indomitable spirit and mental resilience that lays dormant in us all.
A major cheat code in life: Being a pleasure to deal with. Kind when others aren’t. Calm when things go sideways. Reliable under pressure. Intelligence alone is overrated. Be someone who lightens the load for folks around them. People value people who make their lives easier.
Early career advice from my father: “If you don’t do the small things well, they’ll never trust you to do the big things. Remember that. Everything you do matters—act accordingly.”
Half-baked idea popped into my head as I'm trying to get a 7 month old to sleep...
A 501(c)(3) non-profit that owns farm land.
--> prioritize below market renting to 1st gen, young, and beginning farmers/ranchers
--> maybe even discounted contract for deed sales
A lot of land gets left to charities in people's estate plans and those charities cash out via auction to the highest bidder.
What if instead, those acres were a hand-up for the next generation?
Imagine you knew you were 50 failures away from your goal
U would move as fast as possible and just begin taking action
Because u can see the victory at the end of the road
But that's how it actually is
U are X number of failures away
Just attack
The correlation between willing to try something new (take risks), even when you have no idea how to make it work and long term success has to be very similar. I read lots of biographical and business history books and they are filled with people saying “yes” to opportunities
Congratulations to Landon Beaver for signing with Baker University to wrestle! Pictured with Landon are his dad and stepmom Matt and Ashley Beaver, mom and stepdad Mackenzie and Chad Langley, and Baker coach Jimmy May.
I have made three separate trips to town for the correct nut today and have purchased the wrong one each time. There are eight left handed 5/8” nuts on the corn planter and we have seven. We lost one during the restoration.
I selfishly just want to be mad at the parts counter, but what good does that do? I’m reminded of a speech @jockowillink gave at a farmers conference almost five years ago. Pointing the finger at someone else may feel good in the moment, but you learn nothing from it. When there is one finger pointed at the man across from you, there are three pointed back at yourself.
I should have just not lost the nut… but since I did, I should have brought a spare with me to match to the correct one at the store… but since I didn’t, I should have carefully inspected the new nut before leaving the store… I didn’t. I faltered three times in my duty before the parts man faltered once.
Tomorrow morning I’ll have the opportunity to do better. Hopefully the fourth times the charm.
As I leave the New Jersey Youth State Tournament after a long weekend of coaching I realize youth wrestling and youth sports in general is in a sad state and the parents are the main culprit. I’m actually shocked. Some of the things I saw this weekend broke my heart.
I need some time to decompress, then I’ll share a long version of my first hand perspective in the trenches of youth wrestling.
