it was time to get out of this strangest place. his teeth hurt. he turned towards that ladder and made time.

because he had already started his decent. those cracks were swallowing him whole and he was trying to maintain his grip upon the teeth.

he stood in that weird gravel. shook himself back to what passed for reality. from a faint somewhere he could hear something melodic below the constant ringing in his ears; about roads in a place called “west virginia”. whatever the fuck that was about.

because it would. he only hoped he could keep the cracks in his mind from spreading and widening. he had serious fucking doubts

sensing the encroaching madness in this improbable town, he wondered at which point it would sweep him up into its filthy bin

he thought of all he had lost, and among those things, jack was lost too. the sun was kind this day and he smiled in a most heartbroken way

for now, he'd take the warmth of that sun. he felt it was all he had

in that moment the monstrous weight upon him took its leave, unsettled but relieved, he knew it would return

and the sun dappled his skin through the low scrubby trees

jack couldn't stand it any longer, but stand he did

and she knew. she knew what he would be bound by duty to do. he thought it the worst type of betrayal. and it blackened his soul

she hurt him. he took her life. that fact killed a small part of him everyday since. and now his stupid legs didnt do their job properly

attempting to stand, he wobbled and sat back down, hard, on his ass like this world's worst pugilist.

she flitted from his grief and terror addled mind and he thought, i need a fuckin drink

the sun was terribly oppressive and he was sure it was his imagination, but his tears promptly dried. he was unsure of this reality.
