@AlexanderC15828@Benleo Irony is that the Scottish actively chose to remain part of the United Kingdom of Britain and Northern Ireland in 2014 as they had an independence referendum. They are British by democratic mandate.
The English have not had any such referendum!
@TartanArmyGroup@FloridaRepNY You do have to tip when in the US. Tips are not a gratuity there as they are in the UK.
Staff pay is structured differently there – tips are part of it.
@SaorAlbannach What part of the result from the Scottish independence referendum in 2014 do you not understand?
Or do you ignore it because it doesn’t fit your narrative?
@SaorAlbannach Because Scotland is part of the United Kingdom of Britain and Northern Ireland. Try looking at your passport.
Unlike England, Scotland voted on the option of leaving the UK in a referendum just 12 years ago, and opted to stay, so all this talk of being a colony is rubbish
@BelgraviaBlue83@louisbrown007@MichaelMathes FFS, I called you a fool for thinking I was referring to domestic slaves in the UK!! Try reading it again. You’re the one who brought domestic slaves up, FFS!
How many times?
The scheme was for owners of slaves and plantations in the Caribbean.
@BelgraviaBlue83@louisbrown007@MichaelMathes I called you a fool for thinking I was referring to British slave owners being compensated for domestic slaves in UK with added 😂.
What I stated was correct. The point was the Scots owned more slaves per capita than anywhere else in UK when UK banned slavery.
Specific date n/r
@FSUWarpath@MichaelMathes The Scottish monarch became the king of England in 1603 as well, although they remained sovereign countries. In 1707 Scotland entered a union with England, which was known as Great Britain. Therefore George III was king of Scotland as well.
@CaliMcCoist007@MichaelMathes Totally agree will all the above, and underscores my point that Scots had a prolific role in colonisation (such as Lachlan Macquarie in 🇦🇺) and also a major role in industrial and technological revolutions. Some people conflate Scotland’s history with Ireland’s which is incorrect
@TarlapJ@MichaelMathes 😂😂 That did make me laugh! (The knickers bit)😂
I think I meant to put the comment underneath one of the anti-English responses to the OP.
X is giving me a slew of such posts.
@TigerReese@stevesinishtaj@MichaelMathes after it’s colonial venture in Panama went wrong. As for the language, the Scottish Soc. for The Propagation of Christian Knowledge, an Edinburgh charity had 300 schools in Highlands in 1700s &1800s with goal of ‘eradicating popery and Irish language’. 2 different cultures 2/2
@TigerReese@stevesinishtaj@MichaelMathes True of Wales & Ireland (though Scotland had key role in Plantations) but not true of Scotland which had two cultures -Highland and Lowland, with the latter regarding the former as backward.
And James VI of 🏴 became king of England, and in 1707 🏴 entered union with England 1/2
@FrappuccinoSlim@TarlapJ@MichaelMathes Who?
Are you really not aware that the UK is the United Kingdom of Britain and Northern Ireland?
Britain is an island made up of three countries: Scotland, England and Wales.
I’m stunned at how ignorant Americans are of European geography.
@LeeStewartNZ@MichaelMathes You haven’t dumped any tea in the harbour, Kiwi.
Last time I looked, Britain was still on your flag 😃😂
I do like a tea and crumpet, though
@BelgraviaBlue83@louisbrown007@MichaelMathes I’m talking about the Caribbean, you fool! That’s where Britain’s slave plantations were.
That’s what owners were compensated for in 1836. Doh!
