@Bevliz1@LeonaraLondon@CallumLyon Its crazy to have to do it, but it may be a good idea to create a good credit history by choosing a couple of things to get on credit and pay them off IN FULL each month(by standing order so as not to miss a payment). Use a phone bill or petrol, just don’t default on payment.
I want to tell you about someone we just lost, because he deserves better than to disappear quietly.
For over 7 years, a Special Constable, now at independent patrol status - out there alone, unpaid, by choice. An Army veteran who served through things most of us will never have to imagine, and somehow came home kinder for it. MOE trained. And for 18 years a college lecturer in Public Services, spending his days convincing young people that policing is a career worth giving your life to.
He believed that. He taught it. He lived it in the classroom, on the street, and everywhere in between.
He's retiring to Cornwall, so he asked to transfer to Devon & Cornwall. They failed him at interview. Not for anything he'd done - for how he said it. He spoke like a man who's done the job; they wanted the CVF word salad.
Think about what was actually asked of him: a man who has spent 25 years living these values was expected to retrain his brain into their jargon - not to police better, just to survive an hour in an interview room. His students, reciting the word salad fresh from his own classroom, would have passed.
I'm not even angry anymore. I'm sad. Sad that a process built by people who talk endlessly about values couldn't recognise them when they were sitting three feet away. Sad that somewhere, a leadership team will read their recruitment stats this month and never know what they turned away.
He'd have been a credit to any force. Now he'll be a credit to none. And nobody in a position to fix it will even notice.

Here's a gang of thieves stealing a beautiful bronze statue of East End boxing legend Teddy Baldock, probably just for scrap value. Help the police if you know who they are https://t.co/3z33zoO4uv

Seeing so many drivers using a phone and driving this week.
If 6 points & a £200 fine isn’t enough for you, imagine knowing you killed or seriously injured someone on your mind would be like.
It’s not IF it goes wrong - but WHEN. Put the phone away!
