Capitalism has ruined people's perception of the world and made them think it's normal to be extremely selfish and greedy when it isn't. It's not natural to think human beings should go without shelter, food, and healthcare simply because they have no money. It's disturbing.
The thing you realize doing this work for long enough is that every day brings a hundred banal cruelties that are just seen as part of the process. No one cares. The judge doesn’t care. The prosecutor doesn’t know enough to care. The cop either doesn’t care or actively enjoys it.
