Today 46BC Julius Caesar celebrates first of four triumphal processions in Rome - over Gaul, Egypt, Pontus and Africa with leader of the Gauls Vercingetorix led in chains.
@JulesPondard Interesting, I think the math going in redundant ways different is basically just describing reality in different ways and AI would be great at determining what useful things those variables represent, such as pieces of the economy or a machine, or making sense of dimensionality
The floating villages of the Mesopotamian Marshes 🇮🇶
The Mesopotamian Marshes, or Ahwar, stretch across the wetlands of southern Iraq where the Tigris and Euphrates river systems meet. For centuries, the Marsh Arabs, known as the Ma'dan, constructed settlements on natural and artificial islands surrounded by channels navigated by narrow boats.
Homes were traditionally built almost entirely from reeds. Bundles were tied into columns, bent into arches and covered with woven reed mats. Larger communal guesthouses, called mudhifs, were constructed using the same techniques.
The culture has extraordinarily ancient parallels. Archaeological evidence from southern Mesopotamia includes depictions of similar reed structures dating back thousands of years, while the nearby ancient cities of Ur, Uruk and Eridu developed along marshlands beginning in the fourth millennium BCE.
In the 1990s, Saddam Hussein's government deliberately drained vast areas of the marshes. The Marsh Arab population, estimated at roughly 500,000 in the 1950s, fell to about 20,000 following decades of destruction and displacement. Reflooding began after 2003.
Some traditional villages were literally constructed on artificial floating islands made from layers of reeds and mud, which residents periodically reinforced as the material settled into the water.

your perspective that we shouldn't feel terrible about eating meat or polluting with cars, but that doesn't mean you just jam it down my throat like a psychopath on the internet using the cruelest tools of psychological torture you can possibly think of.
I got swarmed by another herd of locusts on threads for advocating for the legalization of DDT (an insecticide) for home use. I'm not claiming to be an expert, but the reaction strongly suggests that trolls on the internet are in a sense delusional.
Suddenly there are swarms and herds of stampeding locusts burying them under a cloud of filthy toxicity on the internet, when if everybody limited their own consumption there would be less demand and hence the cost would be less for EVERYBODY. And it's like yeah, okay, I can see
